

Gregory Leonard Spencer, age 67, a resident of Clinton Township, died Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Beaumont Hospital in Troy Michigan. Gregory was born August 18, 1947 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Virginia (nee: Glinski) and the late Leonard P. Spencer.Gregory was raised in Detroit and graduated from Nativity Catholic High School. Following high school, Greg married and soon thereafter was called to duty during the Vietnam War. Greg was an Airman in the United States Air Force, serving from June 29, 1966 until his honorable discharge June 26, 1970, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. With thanks and praise from a grateful nation, we honor Greg's service to our country and the call to duty he so proudly carried out.After his faithful service to his country, Gregory returned home to Detroit and went to work for the United States Postal Service. Ultimately attaining the position of Supervisor, Greg's career spanned over 20 years of dedicated service at the Royal Oak Postal Center until his well-deserved retirement.When Greg was not working, his family was paramount in his life... he cherished his children and grandchildren. When able, Greg took the kids to almost every Detroit Tiger's home games. Greg was a diehard Tiger fan, either watching on television or attending the games. His proudest Tiger's memories were the boys of 1968 and the 1984 World Series Champs. Greg was also an aficionado and lover of all music and movies. His time frame and genre for music and movies spanned in many different directions, however it was the love of the sounds and acting that he cherished. Quiet time at home was spent conquering any crossword puzzle he could get his hands on. His daughter Teri fondly remembers all the visits to her Dad's home and him clutching the latest crossword in his hands.Retiring from the Postal Service didn't slow Greg down as he returned to the workforce helping his buddy who owned the Ryan Tavern. Greg could be found doing payroll, helping with the books, or even cleaning toilets. It was something to do along with making many friends with the patrons of the tavern as well. Greg will be missed by many whom he had the good fortune to making their acquaintance.Surviving Gregory are his dear children, Scott (Karlyn) Spencer, Teri (Scott) Fulton, and Carol (Clinton) Mills. He was the beloved son of Virginia Porzadek, and the late Leonard Spencer, and is the loving grandfather of Sean, Casey, Caitlin, Lily, Madeline, Natalie, Gene, and the late Ashley. Further survivors include his brother Randy (Mary) Spencer, and his nephews Ryan and Kyle Spencer, and many loving family members and friends.Visitation for Mr. Spencer will be held Thursday, April 16th from 5-9 pm, with a 7:30pm Prayer Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Road) in Warren. Memorial donations are appreciated to the American Cancer Society.
