Kause, Gustave J., age 95 of Warren, died Saturday, January 10, 2015 at his residence, the Windemere Park Senior Living Community in Warren. He was born on April 26, 1919 in Portage, Pennsylvania, son of the late Gust and the late Mary (nee: Bruett) Kause. For those St. Clair Shorian's who were lucky enough to attend South Lake High School years ago, they'll probably remember the familiar face of a friendly custodian known simply as "Gus,"…the man we pay homage to herein. For many years, he was the man that kept it all together behind the scenes,…and on occasion, in the middle of the day as well,…so that the school's appearance was always top-notch. Gus came from a long line of family members who also graced the staff at South Lake, from the secretarial pool, to the kitchen & lunch helpers, it was definitely a family affair. After many years of dedicated and loyal service to the school system, he proudly entered the realm of the retired and enjoyed his remaining years with the love of his life, Patricia. She preceded Gus in death, but not before the two lovebirds celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary together in a party fit for royalty. When he wasn't working, Gus enjoyed an array of pastimes that included both indoor and outdoor pleasures alike. When the sunshine and temperatures were cooperative, you'd have probably found him out on the boat navigating the waters of Lake St. Clair,…a pure Michigan thing to do. And whether it was on the boat or standing on the shoreline, another of Gus' favorite pastimes was casting his line in the water in search of the "Big One!" He loved to fish, and he definitely snagged a good number of perch in his day. On those occasions he sought away from the water, it was off to the links for a challenging round of golf. Though he really wasn't picky about the course, he did manage to frequent the St. Clair Shores and Cracklewood courses the most. He was a member of various golf leagues throughout the years, but some of his best golfing memories were those shared with his son, Timothy. Together, they did their best to tame the links,…and create some wonderful father & son moments while having some fun in the process. Gus also loved playing cards, especially when it came to his favorite game, Pinochle. There was always great fun to be had while sitting around the table, tossing some cards, and shooting a little bull as well. And then there was the dancing,…primarily Square Dancing, a shared enjoyment with his precious, Patricia. When these two rug-cutters got in the swing, they were a sight to behold. Yet of all the traits and personality highlights that could define Gus, the most prominent will always be that he was, truly, the "Commander of His Ship! From his custodial days at South Lake High School, to his more current residency at the Windemere Park Senior Living Community, everybody acknowledged the fact of Gus' stature,…and went along for the ride aboard the USS Kause. When Gus was navigating the ship, it was always "smooth sailing."A loving husband, father and grandfather, Gus leaves behind a legacy of love that will forever be a beacon to those who were blessed to know this dear man. He touched a multitude of hearts and lives along the way, and each remembrance and reflection is sure to bring a smile. He will be missed immensely and loved eternally. Gus was the beloved husband of the late Patricia. Dearest father of Timothy (Bernice) Kause, Janet Ivkov-Pawl, and David Kause. Loving grandfather of Timothy, Anthony, Jeffery, Michele, John, Laurie, and great-grandfather of Dalton, Anthony, Victoria, Vincent, Julia, Samantha, Tyler, Zachray, Cameron, Ty, Johnny, and Riley. Visitation for Gus will be held Wednesday, January 14th from 3-9pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd) in Warren. Please share memories of Gus at his memory book above.
