She was born November 8, 1914 to the late John Hamel and the late Bernice (nee: Slusarski) Hamel.Helen was honored back in 2004 as resident of the month at the Evangelical Home where she lived for several years. She was featured in the Evangelical Heartlines with a story that was written about her life. The article was written by her son, Kenneth and reads as follows:Congratulations to Helen Baron for becoming the resident of the month November 2004. Helen was born at home on November 8, 1914 in Detroit, Michigan. Since she was not expected to live she was baptized that same day. And 90 years later (and now 99 years) she was still celebrating life. She was the oldest of four children, 2 sisters and a brother. Her parents met each other and married in the early 1900's. Her father died at the very young age of 32. He mother kept all of the kids together and they enjoyed a happy family environment. She went to St. Andrew's elementary school, and then to Munger Middle School. Her mother eventually re-married, and with her new husband Joseph, and her siblings they moved to Richmond, Michigan. Helen's mother wanted her to finish her education at Cass Tech High Scholl, so she stayed in Detroit and lived with her family's good friends during those years. Helen first knew of her husband, Andrew, when she was seven years old and he was fourteen. They lived and grew up in the same neighborhood, but were only acquaintances during this time. However, as the years went on, when she was twenty-three, she re-met Andrew and they started dating. They eventually married on June 25, 1938. They had fifty four years of a very happy marriage, and were blessed with two loving sons. The family had very strong relations with relatives and friends. They lived in Detroit until the boys graduated from high school then later moved to the city of Warren. Her husband Andrew died in 1992. She enjoyed meeting new people, so she applied for a sales position at Crowley's in the Macomb Mall. After sixteen years in sales, she retired. Her family was always priority one with her. Her sons were her everything! When she had some spare time, you could find her making rosaries for the Catholic missions, and making jewelry form seashells she gathered from their visits to Florida. She loved to play cards and read. So, obviously, the story of Helen's life was a full and rewarding one. Though her passing may leave a bit of sadness, the legacy of love she leaves will live on forever in the memories of those whose lives she so dearly touched. She will be missed immensely, and remembered affectionately. She was the beloved wife of the late Andrew J. Baron. Dear mother of James, and Kenneth Baron. Loving grandmother of Paul (Kerrie), and the late Andrew. Sister of Leona (the late Edward) Burmann, Bernice (the late Al) Ottenbacher, and the late Ed (the late Irene) Hamel. Visitation for Helen will be held on Wednesday from 3-9pm, with a 6:30pm Rosary Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile) in Warren. Her Funeral Mass will be conducted on Thursday at 1pm at St. Faustina Catholic Church in Warren. In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to the Evangelical Home of Sterling Heights, Employee Morale Fund, 14900 Shoreline, Sterling Heights, MI 48313. Please share memories of Helen at her guest book.
