

James Hyland Like, age 83, died Monday, December 11, 2017 in Madison Heights, Michigan. Jim was born October 17, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan, son of the late John Like and the late Eveline (nee: Hyland) Like.Jim was raised in Detroit and graduated from Denby High School, the Class of 1953. Following high school Jim chose to work within the construction trades and was eventually employed by the S.A. Sindon Lathing Company. The company was founded by the family of his future bride, Jean Sindon. Jim and Jean were married in 1955 at Cross of Glory Lutheran Church in Detroit.Jim worked for S.A. Sindon Lathing Company for over ten years before joining Tieco Products as their Vice President. He worked for Tieco Products for ten more years before being recruited to join the Tishman Construction Company of New York. The Tishman executives realized Jim was an experienced carpenter with a fine eye for detail along with managing employees and other trades. Jim traveled and worked as a superintendent for Tishman Construction, first in New York and later settling back in Detroit to spearhead the new construction of the Detroit Renaissance Center.Jim worked at the Renaissance Center for the remainder of his career, working for the original developers of the property up to the current owners, General Motors, retiring as the Director of Engineering. Jim knew the site and facility like the back of his hand and truly held a passion for the Renaissance Center, the work he performed there, and all the employees who worked for him to make sure the facility was always in tip-top shape. When Jim was not working, he loved being out on the Detroit River or Lake St. Clair aboard his boat. Over the years he owned many boats, his last being the 31 foot Chris-Craft Commander that he kept at Kean's Marina in Detroit. Jim and his family spent many wonderful hours out on the boat along with enjoying many stops at their favorite waterfront eateries, including their favorite spot, Sindbad's Restaurant.Jim was the beloved husband of Jean, and was the dear father of Janet (Al) Cellitti, and Jim (Karen) Like. He was the cherished grandfather of Pete Cellitti, Jennifer (Jimmy) Zientak, Nicholas Cellitti, Brian Like, David Like, and Rachel Like. Jim is also survived by his nephew and niece, Michael Brandt Eileen "Crystal" Noud, and many dear friends. Visitation for Mr. Like will be held on Thursday, December 14th from 5-9 pm and Friday 2-9 pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile) in Warren.
