Jane spent her childhood summers on her aunt’s farm, where she learned to care for the animals and master all the farm chores—experiences that shaped her strong work ethic and independence early on. She later lived in Highland Park, where she and her husband owned a bar and where she served as the bookkeeper for many years. She eventually shifted into property management, working first in Mt. Clemens and later in Northville, where she served as a manager until her retirement. Even after retiring, Jane continued giving back by volunteering in a Special Education classroom.
To her grandchildren, she was lovingly known as classy, fancy, and proper—with impeccable taste to match. Fashionable in every way, she had leather driving gloves in every color to coordinate with her outfits, and even her license plate proudly read “City Girl.” She loved to travel, making memorable trips to places like Las Vegas and Spain. She enjoyed playing pool and rummy, but her true game of choice was Euchre—where she was affectionately regarded as a card shark.
Christmas, however, was her greatest joy. Jane adored every aspect of the holiday season—wrapping gifts for everyone, crafting wreaths, decorating her trees, hosting family gatherings, and watching the children’s eyes light up as they opened their presents. Her love for Christmas was so great that she kept her tree up all year long. Family was the heart of her world, and the time she spent with her grandchildren—whether at Red Wings games, day trips to the pumpkin patch, shopping outings, or crafting together—were moments she held dear. Each grandchild shared a special bond with her, one that they will forever treasure.
Jane was also a talented professional painter whose artwork was displayed and sold at various art shows. She took great pride in teaching her grandchildren etiquette, whether during dinners out or in everyday life, passing along her grace and refinement to the next generation.
She was the beloved wife of the late Paul. Cherished mother of Richard Shannon, Robbi Zawojskyj, Robert “Bobby” Shannon. Devoted grandmother of Theressa Zawojskyj, John (Holly) Zawojskyj, Elizabeth (James) Singleton, Jessi Pettinato, and Joseph (Jac-Lynn) Shannon.
