A woman of deep faith, Janet was a lifelong and devoted member of Bethany Baptist Church in Clinton Township. Janet was deeply committed to her church. She volunteered often, and lived by her Christian values that showed in the way she treated everyone with compassion.
In her free time, Janet played baseball for many years and collected many trophies for her natural talent for the sport. She was also a dedicated bowler on multiple leagues. Janet loved to have fun with the people she loved and this carried over to her love of card games like Racko and euchre, where she always played to win.
Known for her radiant personality and genuine interest in others, Janet could become someone’s best friend in minutes. She was an enthusiastic listener, always eager to know what was going on in someone’s life and celebrate any milestone. She was especially close to her dear neighbors Benn and Laura, and Tracy and Carl, along with their children Chelsea (Steve), Hayley, Judah, Josh, and Ryan, her beloved “bonus family.” To the many children who knew her, Janet was simply “Grandma,” a name she wore proudly.
Everyone knew they were always welcome at Janet’s house. She took great pride in keeping her house beautiful and was always impeccably dressed, never leaving without her signature makeup and a stylish outfit. Her home was a gathering place, especially in the summer when her pool became the neighborhood favorite.
Shopping was one of Janet’s favorite pastimes, often accompanied by her husband Neil and son Steve, who carried her bags and joined her on her search for the perfect deal even if it meant circling back to the first store. Their family outings, whether to restaurants or just simple days together, were filled with love and laughter that was the foundation of their lives. Janet loved her family more than anything. Her love for her son especially went beyond being family when he was grown and had kids of his own. Janet timed her retirement so that she could enjoy fully one of the happiest times in her life- becoming their grandma. Janet was their biggest cheerleader and never missed any event in their life. She was the glue that held her family together and the heart of every room she entered.
A beloved wife, devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and treasured friend, Janet will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Loving wife of the late Neil for 65 years. Loving mom of Steve (Lori) Sullivan. Cherished grandma of Paige, Nicole, and the late Jeffrey.
