

John P. Forest, of Warren, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home on July 13, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on June 26, 1937, in Detroit, John lived a long and full life marked by quiet strength, unwavering faith, and deep devotion to his family.
He was a proud graduate of Servite High School and dedicated 37 years of service to General Motors, where he worked as a Tool & Die Designer & Engineering Manager. On September 28, 1963, John married the love of his life, Judith Ann Metyko, in Detroit. Together they built a life rooted in love, laughter, and faith.
John is survived by Judy and their children: Tom (Monica) Forest, Michelle (Russ) Shaffer, Dan (Coryne) Forest, and Kathy (Kevin) Kane. He was a cherished grandfather to Erika and Anna Forest; Jason (Valeria Torres) and Nicole (Dalton Rowell) Shaffer; Meghan (Josh) Forest-Singer and Jordan Forest; Michelle, John (Sahara), and Stephen Kane. He is also survived by his sister Maryanne (Lee) Durnell and brother-in-law Dave Lynn. John will be joining his sister Eileen Lynn and his parents, George and Marie (Moeller) Forest in heaven.
A gifted photographer, John had an eye for capturing life’s beautiful moments. He gave selflessly of his time to St. Vincent de Paul and was a devoted member of St. Mary, Our Lady Queen of Families, where his faith flourished. A childhood accident at age seven brought him special prayers from Bl. Solanus Casey—a blessing John treasured deeply throughout his life.
Above all, John absolutely loved his family, and they loved him. His legacy lives on in their hearts and in the many lives he touched with his kindness, wisdom, and witty humor. He was the master of dad jokes.
In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s honor may be made to St. Vincent de Paul St Mary Queen of Families conference or directly to St. Mary, Our Lady Queen of Families in Center Line, Michigan.
Visitation for John will be held on Thursday, July 17th from 3-8pm with a 6pm Scripture Service at D.S. Temrowski and Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road, Warren, MI 48093. He will lie In State on Friday, July 18th from 9am until the time of his Funeral Mass at 10am at St. Mary, Our Lady Queen of Families Church, 25252 Van Dyke, Center Line, MI 48015. Burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, 18201 Clinton River Rd, Michigan, MI 48038.
