

Julian Florian Solnik "Jack," age 92, died Monday, January 27, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Jack was born January 15, 1922 in Hamtramck, Michigan, the son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Solnik.Jack was raised in Hamtramck and graduated from Hamtramck High School. Following high school, Jack went to work for Michigan Bell as a lineman, however World War II broke out and his Country called. Jack answered the call to duty serving in the United States Army where he would achieve the rank of Tec 3 in the Communications Unit.Following Mr. Solnik's honorable duty to his Country, he returned to his family and the familiarity of home and work at Michigan Bell. Jack would later meet the love of his life, Lillian and the two would eventually make a new home in Warren, Michigan in 1957. Living in Warren, the family created a wonderful home for their family of six.Mr. Solnik was employed for over 42 years with Michigan Bell, working his way up the ladder from lineman to supervisor. Jack was always trying to better himself with education and, while working days, attended night school at Wayne State University where he would achieve his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration.When Mr. Solnik was not working, he enjoyed golfing, fishing, and hunting. He and his wife had many friends whom they took many travel trips with and also played many card games. Jack was very proud of his Polish heritage and even prouder of his Christmas decorations and lights he hung. His children said their dad was always fixing something and tinkering with a project.Mr. Solnik was the beloved husband, of over 63 years, to his dear late wife, Lillian, and was the loving father of Patricia Solnik, Marianne (Bart) Farrell, Rob (Nancy) Solnik, and Thom (Doris) Solnik. He was also the proud grandfather of Ryan, Nicholas, Megan, Andrew, Matthew, and Marissa. Visitation for Mr. Solnik will be held on Wednesday, January 29th from 3-9pm, with a 7pm Rosary Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Rd. at Common (12 1/2 mile) in Warren. Mr. Solnik will lie in state Thursday from 11am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:30am at St. Faustina Catholic Church, 14025 Twelve Mile Road in Warren. Celebrating the Funeral Liturgy will be Rev. Fr. Bogdan Milosz. Memorial donations appreciated to the Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders Program, Henry Ford Hospital, West Bloomfield.
