He is survived by his wife, Judith, the love of his life, for 20 years. He is the beloved father of David (Janie) Hamilton, Jason (Laura) Hamilton, step-father of Alyssa (Michael) Boutsikaris, and the late Kristopher (Jordan) Gorlitz. Cherished grandfather of Emma, Rylee, Roxie, Phoenix, and Xander. Caring brother of Teresa, Rita, Bernie, Margaret, Danny, Tom, and the late Delora. He also had many nieces and nephews.
Kermit worked at White Chapel Cemetery for 41 years, and dedicated many years as a volunteer firefighter with the Rochester Hills Fire Department. He was an avid hunter and fisher, and loved being outdoors. He especially enjoyed trips to Virginia’s mountains and countryside and to Northern Michigan. Cooking was a specialty of his and he loved to cook everything and anything. His family called him “Scoop” as he kept refilling everyone’s plate. He also enjoyed gardening and meticulously caring for the landscaping at home, spending time with family, and woodworking – he loved to build everything from picnic tables to cabinets, blanket racks to shelves and anything else anyone would request. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Judy, to his native Virginia and going on cruises to warm, tropical islands, as well as quiet nights at home with her. He was a TV buff who watched anything from Ice Road Trucker to Little House on the Prairie. The History Channel was a go to for him especially when American Pickers came on. Kermit could often be found either sitting in his garage or outside enjoying his day. Kermit enjoyed helping others and no matter the need, he was always there to help, whether it was simple house repairs, remodeling projects, car trouble, or helping if you got locked out of your house, he was always there when someone needed help.
