Lawrence R. Lewandowski, age 70 of Fraser, died Sunday, March 25, 2012 at his home. He was born on March 23, 1942 in Detroit, son of the late Zdzislaw and the late Josephine (nee: Guzik) Lewandowski. With thanks and praise from a grateful nation, we pay homage to Lawrence for his service to our country during the Vietnam War. As a member of the United States Air Force, he served between 1960 and 1965 and attained the rank of Airman First Class. Following his time in active duty, Lawrence served in the Air Force Reserves between 1966 and 1969, receiving his honorable discharge having achieved the rank of Sergeant. For the sacrifices made and the bravery extended, we honor Lawrence for answering the call of his country. In the years following his return from Vietnam, Lawrence was most proud of the fraternal associations he shared with the American Legion and the AmVets. There was just something special and rewarding in the camaraderie and relationships he enjoyed with his brothers-in-arms.When it came to his enjoyment in life, Lawrence's favorite times and memories were most often centered in the realm of the outdoors. Quite often, this meant camping,'and almost always, it involved tossing his line in the water in search of the 'Big One.' Yes, Lawrence loved to fish, especially when his excursions took him to the more northern parts of Michigan. But he really wasn't fussy as his fishing passion took him to a plethora of spots all over the state. Another of his sporting pleasures was found in the game of horseshoes. There was nothing quite like a little competition amongst family and friends while tossing iron weights through the air toward each other. For his favorite pastime at home, sitting in the easy chair and taking in a good movie was tops on his list. His optimum watching pleasure was wrapped around the action of a classic war movie, or in the unique comedy of the Monty Python troupe. Both offered him the perfect escape for the entertainment he so enjoyed. He was the beloved husband of Kathleen. Dear father of Anastasia (Mike) Salverson. Loving grandfather of Cody. Brother of Dennis (Adele) Lewandowski. He is also survived by loving nieces, a nephew, and extended family and friends. Visitation for Lawrence will be held on Thursday, March 29th from 5-9pm, and Friday from 2-9pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd) in Warren. His Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will take place, with military honors, at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.Memorial donations may be directed to the family. Please share memories of Lawrence at his guest book.
