

Louis Joseph Marcetti Jr., age 79, a longtime resident of Sterling Heights, Michigan died August 30, 2012 at Sunrise Assisted Living Center of Rochester. Louis was born on August 22, 1933 to Louis and Mary (nee: Miramonti) Marcetti in Detroit, Michigan. Lou was raised in East Detroit and attended high school at East Detroit High graduating in 1951. When Lou was in high school he was a standout athlete having lettered in nine sports. He also was an all-state football star who would achieve a football scholarship to Michigan State Univesity. Following an injury during football, Lou enrolled at Eastern Michigan University where he studied education. Lou would later achieve his Masters of Education while teaching for East Detroit Schools.When his country called during the Korean War, Lou answered the call to serve. He served in the United States Army having achieved the rank of Corporal. Following his service to his country, Lou returned to what he loved most, his family and teaching. Lou spent over 42 years teaching at East Detroit High School and also acting as Vice-Principal.When Lou was not working his life revolved around his family and sports. He cherished the time watching his children mature both as young adults and as athletes. Working in education afforded Lou the opportunity to spend time in Northern Michigan during his summers. These times are fondly remembered by all as times of bonding, fishing, playing cards, and quiet times reading. Lou was a voracious reader often reading several books each week. As time passed, he cherished his granddaughters and son-in-laws. Lou will be remembered by his family as a devout father steeped in his faith and also one who enjoyed meeting strangers and sharing stories. Many may also recall the passion he held for another special pastime and hobby. Along with hangin' out at one of his favorite fishing holes, Lou also poured his heart into the care and nurturing of the fish within his aquarium at home. His aquarium was truly a showpiece for all to enjoy, but nonesomuch as the caretaker himself.Louis was the beloved husband of Jacqueline (nee: Climie), and dearest father of Jacqueline (Mark) Schmidt, Christina (Greg) Purcell, and the late John Louis Marcetti. He is the dearest grandfather of Morgan, and Olivia Purcell, and dear brother of Joanne Marcetti, and Thomas (Arlene) Marcetti. Visitation for Mr. Marcetti will be Friday from 3-9 pm with a 7pm Evening Vigil at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ' mile). Mr. Marcetti will lie in State Saturday 11:30 am, until the time of the Funeral Mass 12 Noon at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, in Utica. Celebrating the Funeral Liturgy will be Rev. Fr. Sal Palazzolo.
