Mark David Baker, age 53 of Warren, Michigan passed away on Monday, June 29, 2020 surrounded by his loved ones. Mark is survived by the love of his life, Paula L. Baker, to whom he was married for 28 years; his son, Kenneth (Ronnie) Crocker; daughters Tiffany (Daniel) Wilson and Brittney Baker; brother Duane (Carol) Baker and Dale Brown; eight grandchildren; and his furkids, Miri and Jace. He is preceded in death by his mother, Cheryl Girton and beloved dog, Princess.
Although not “blood”, Mark had many family members; Ginny Lach and Trina Toll; and “sisters” Linda Prentiss and Donna Prentiss-Bonner (sister-in-laws). Along with his wife and son; these people compromised “Team Baker” and supported, loved, and helped Mark and Paula during Mark’s illness.
Mark graduated from Pontiac High School and served in the U.S. Army at Fort Ord for four years. Ironically, Paula was at Fort Ord at the same time Mark was, but the two did not meet until they were back in Michigan on a blind date.
Mark obtained a degree in Hydraulics and started his career at MNP Corporation/Beta Steel, where he was employed for 33 years, last as a Quality Control Manager.
Mark was a very humble and caring man, and was usually described by others as a “good guy” and was very helpful to others. Mark loved cars, and helped restore and co-owned The Nova, which he enjoyed driving and working on. He also worked at swap meets. He and Paula loved to travel to various swap meets and he loved to talk about cars to others while Paula just loved to talk to everyone.
Mark was very knowledgeable and, in his heyday, loved trivia and watching Jeopardy. Paula encouraged him to try out for the show because he was that good, but he declined, again, a very humble man. Mark was also a very giving man. He would go on all the roller coaster rides with Ken, not because he liked them, but because Paula wouldn’t.
Mark’s cancer again showed his strength, courage, and love. He was nicknamed SUPERMAN because he fought such a hard, long battle, and rarely complained. Paula was his kryptonite and his love for Paula emanated throughout his illness as Mark was always more worried about how she was feeling and doing than himself.
A “Mark Baker salute” to our SUPERMAN!! Rest in Peace Mark – you are loved and will be missed greatly. Fly Free!!
A Memorial Visitation for Mark will be held Saturday, July 11th from 2-5 pm, concluding with Military Honors at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Road) in Warren.
