Along with her role as homemaker and mom, Mary was quite proud of the many years she served within the United States Postal Service,…first in Warren, then in Algonac where she spent the final 19 years of her employment and ultimately rose through the ranks to become Postmaster of her branch. The promotion not only bolstered her soul, but put the cherry on the sundae to what was a very rewarding career for Mary.
When she wasn’t working, Mary was known for her love of the outdoors and was often found enjoying the same in some way or another. At times it would entail hitting the links for a little golfing action, and at others you would probably catch her at one of her favorite fishing holes casting her line in the water and soaking up the sun between bites. Whether she was searching for that elusive Hole-in-One or hoping to net The Big One,…either way, Mary was enjoying two of her favorite passions without the confines of walls and temperature-controlled rooms. In the outdoors, she was free and unencumbered and loved being surrounded by the beauty of nature.
Another of her desired pastimes was enjoyed in the company of family and friends each time they gathered around the ball return at their favorite bowling alley. Nothing says fun quite like joining in on a little pin action amongst friends, wearing rented shoes, and hoping to find a bowling ball that won’t rip your thumb off as you toss it down the alley. Considered one of those “All-American” sports, it is definitely a Michigan thing to do, and definitely an activity that brought considerable joy to Mary’s life. She will also be remembered for her love of playing cards, especially the game of Euchre. Another Michigan favorite, Mary loved gathering around the card table and sharing in a bit of friendly competition as the cards got slung,…as did a bit of interesting banter (and laughter) as well.
A loving mother, aunt, and friend, perhaps Mary’s most endearing trait is that she was a “Class Act.” Whatever setting she was in, she was truly the Belle of the Ball. She could never get enough of her family and friends as they were the sunshine in her life and in whom her joy was derived. Mary was a special lady with a huge heart who touched a multitude of souls in her journey through life. She leaves a legacy of love to be embraced with each reflection shared, and she will be immensely missed by all who were blessed to know her. May she rest in peace.
Mary was the beloved mother of Rodney Fewer and Jim Sunman. Dearest companion of Bob Poole. Sister of Laura Verduin, Betty Suchey, and the late James Salisbury. Loving grandmother of two and great-grandmother of six. Also survived by several loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Mary will be held Thursday, October 24th from 5-9 pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd.) in Warren. Her Funeral Services will follow on Friday, 11:00 am at the funeral the home. Officiating the service will be Pastor Walter Keller.
