Born in Detroit to the late Anthony and Ann Pearl Resetar (nee Raddish), Mary attended and
graduated from Sweetest Heart of Mary Catholic School. As her mother fondly called her
‘Joycee,’ Mary was most commonly known as ‘Joy’ to friends and family. As a young woman,
she worked as a switchboard operator and in the airline industry. Eventually she retired from
working in the banking industry. After meeting James, they went on to marry in
1954 and raised their four children in Warren. Devoted to her family, Joy enjoyed the travels
they had together throughout the years. Joy and James took many trips throughout Michigan
and around the United States including Washington, Texas, Hawaii and even internationally as
far as Germany. When their children were growing up, they often took summer vacations to
Myrtle Beach. Joy was a long-time member of St. Leonard’s Catholic Church in Warren,
throughout the years her and her husband James enjoyed a vibrant social life with the friends
they made at church. A member of the ‘card club,’ Joy would get together with seven of some
of her best friends to play pinochle every month. Later in life, Joy’s grandchildren kept her
busy at their various athletic and social events. In her free time Joy was always crocheting
something, or could be found tending to her garden. She also enjoyed reading and word puzzles.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Joy will be missed
dearly.
