Mary Theresa Spraga, age 87 of St. Clair Shores, died Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital, Macomb Center in Warren. She was born December 1, 1927 in Sicilia, Italy, daughter of the late Vincenzo and the late Mary (nee: Norrito) Messina.A natural born Italian citizen, Mary was 27 years of age when she answered the call of her heart to emigrate to the United States of America. It was in 1954 that she took the trip across the pond and eventually landed in the Detroit area. It didn't take long before she would meet the man who would sweep her off her feet, the dashing & deboner, Vito Spraga. Following their courtship, the two lovebirds decided to join their hearts as one in marriage, a beautiful ceremony they shared with family and friends in November of 1956 in Detroit's Holy Family Catholic Church. It was just two years later that Mary & Vito welcomed their son Tony into the world, and the Spraga Family had begun their journey. When Mary arrived in America, she desired to enter the workforce and found gainful employment, first in a restaurant, and later at the Prince Macaroni Company. Yet for most of her life, Mary put one of her natural talents to work as a seamstress,…something she did on more of a part-time nature. She worked hard all her life and became a proud American, never returning to her native Italy.A loving wife, mother, sister and friend, she will be affectionately remembered by all who were blessed to know her and missed forevermore. May she rest in peace.Mary was the beloved wife of the late Vito, who preceded her in death in 2004, and the loving mother of Anthony Spraga. She is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 3 sisters.Visitation for Mary will be held on Friday, April 24th from 3:00-9:00 pm, with a 6:30 pm Vigil Service, at D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Rd. at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd.) in Warren.
