

Mittie Ann Turnbull, age forty-two, passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2024, in Macomb, Michigan. She was born on June 3, 1982 in Sunnyside, Washington to the late Gerald High and Deborah Jean Branch.
Mittie exemplified a life guided by compassion and empathy. Her devotion to her two daughters, family, and friends was unparalleled, and her presence brought warmth and comfort.
Throughout her life, Mittie's acts of generosity were countless, whether it was lending support to friends, or offering words of encouragement to those facing challenges her selflessness and genuine concern for others left an indelible mark on everyone she met.
In addition to her kindness, Mittie was known for her strong sense of integrity, always standing firm in her principles and leading by example. Her commitment to honesty, fairness, and kindness earned her the respect and admiration of all who had the privilege of crossing paths with her. This was evident when she followed her Papaw and her eldest brother in joining the military after being inspired by the attacks that took place on September 11, 2001. Mittie served her country in the United States Navy from October 2001 to August 2006 as an Aviation maintenance Administration Technician and a Central Technical Publications Librarian. During her service, Mittie earned the Navy Battle E Ribbon and the Pistol Marksmanship Ribbon. She was also awarded the Navy Good Conduct Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.
Upon completion of her military service she married William Turnbull (divorced May 2024) and raised their two daughters, Carley and Abigail. In the spring of 2012, Mittie completed her Associate’s Degree at Coastline Community College and began working for the U.S. Army-Tank Automotive & Armaments Command (TACOM). She started her career at TACOM in December 2012, working as a secretary. From 2015 until 2023, Mittie worked as a technical writer for TACOM, helping develop technical publications for a variety of equipment. In July 2023, she was promoted to a logistic management team leader. It was evident that Mittie loved her career and found joy in not only continuing to serve her country, but also in the people she had the opportunity to work alongside.
Above all else, Mittie was a dedicated and loving mother to her two daughters, Carley and Abby. Mittie approached raising her daughters with grace and patience, always putting her girls’ needs above her own. She delighted in Carley and Abby’s various achievements—big and small—and provided unwavering support through every milestone and challenge they faced. Her guidance and wisdom shaped their values and aspirations, instilling in them a deep sense of compassion and resilience. Mittie was a beacon of strength and encouragement to her daughters, which cannot be replaced, but Carley and Abby will continue to embody the qualities of dedication, selflessness, and unconditional love, an indication that their Mom’s spirit will continue to live through them.
Mittie was admired and loved by all who had the opportunity to work and be friends with her. She will be missed in the many circles of friends, family, and people whose lives she touched. Her legacy will continue to inspire and uplift those who were fortunate to experience her boundless compassion and unwavering dedication to the things and people she loved.
Beloved daughter of Debbie (Bill) Branch; dear mother of Carley Ann and Abigail Grace; cherished sister of Jason (Laura) High, and Carl (Kristy) High; proud aunt of Cian, Brody, Claudia, Kate, Conleigh, and Tyler; adored great-neice of Mae Metheny; ex-spouse and co-parent of William Turnbull; proud friend of Tara Wenzel, Linda Blankenship, and John Fazakerly. Preceded in death by her father, Gerald High, her Papaw Carl Moody, and her Mamaw Faye Moody, and her Granny Albie Galloway.
Visitation for Mittie will take place on Thursday, July 11, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, located at 30009 Hoover Road, Warren, Michigan 48093. Funeral Service with military honors will take place on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at 6:30 p.m., also at the funeral home.
