Peter M. Lusch, age 88 of Clinton Township, died Monday, September 13, 2010 at Medilodge of Sterling Heights. He was born on March 9, 1922 in Detroit, son of the late Martin and the late Minnie (nee: Gorang) Lusch. With thanks & praise from a grateful nation, we pay homage to Peter for the call to duty he so proudly served as a soldier in the United States Army during World War II. He served from November 1942 to November 1945, and was part of the European Theater of Operations, stationed in Italy, where he specialized as a Field Linesman. As if the fighting wasn't dangerous enough on the ground, Peter would often be found perched atop a pole for all to see. Perilous as it was, he held much pride for the role he played in protecting the freedoms and liberties we enjoy today. We honor him for his service to our country, one of the many of our Greatest Generation. Midway through his stint in the Army, Peter's life was gloriously changed during a trip home on leave when he asked the love of his life, Alfrieda, for her hand in marriage. There at the altar, dressed handsomely in his army uniform, the two became husband & wife and went on to share a loving relationship together which included the blessings of faith, family, and friendship. Upon his return from the war, Peter was employed as a Meatcutter in the food service industry. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed a multitude of interests. Like most men, he definitely had a bit of sports in his blood. One of his favorites was baseball, and he possessed wonderful memories of the grandchildren sitting with him as they listened on the radio, together, while the boys of summer did their thing. But without a doubt, Peter's ultimate sports enjoyment was found in the Boys of NASCAR! He never missed a race and lived for the excitement and sounds that stock car racing provided. Starting back in the earlier days of Earnhardt, Petty, and Waltrip,...right up to the here & now of his latest favorite, Jimmie Johnson, there's been no greater fan of racing than Peter. Other pasttimes he enjoyed was watching, and being challenged by, two of his favorite game shows, "Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy." When it came to a little group fun, you could always find Peter enrapt with family & friends around the table playing cards. Usually it meant a rousing game of Pinnocle or Euchre, both of which he thoroughly enjoyed. Peter was also an avid reader, his favorite choice being that of his daily perusal of the Macomb Daily newspaper. He always liked being on top of current events, and scouring his paper was one of his prime events of every day. Peter was also a fanatic when it came to his vehicles and keeping them clean. His cars were always spotless. And if you were a visitor with a less-than-spotless sheen on you auto, you could bet that it would soon be in the hands of the Master! That's, simply, the kind of guy he was,...always doing things for others. With an unselfish spirit and a giving heart, Peter loved being active when it meant lending a hand. He was a tremendous man of faith, devout in his beliefs, and eager to give his time to the church. And this may tell the story of why Christmas was his favorite holiday of all. The lives he touched were many and he leaves a myriad of memories to all those who follow after. Beloved husband of the late Alfrieda. Dear father of Linda (Tom) Powers. Loving grandfather of Michael (Kim) Powers, Brian (Laila) Powers, Jeffery Powers, and great-grandfather of Garrett, Logan, Andrew, Travis, Alyssa, Madison, Matthew, Faith, and Hope. Brother of MaryAnn (Jack) Schram and Jack Lusch. Visitation for Peter will be held on Tuesday, September 14th from 5-9pm and Wednesday from 2-9pm, with a 7pm Rosary Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd) in Warren. He will lie in state on Thursday from 9:30am until the time of Mass at 10:00am at St. Paul of Tarsus Catholic Church, 41300 Romeo Plank Road in Clinton Township. Officiating the Mass will be Rev. Father Ron Essman. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township, Michigan. Memorial donations are welcomed to the Capuchin's, 1820 Mt. Elliott Street, Detroit, MI 48205. Please share memories of Peter at his guest book.
