

Raymond Roy, age 81 of Warren, died peacefully on Monday, January 17, 2011 at the St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital: Warren Campus. Ray was born on February 14, 1929 in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of the late Nicholas and Mary (Powidajko) Roy. The family moved to Coleman, Michigan to farm before settling in Detroit where Ray graduated from Pershing High in 1946. He joined the Navy and served proudly as a Quartermaster First Class aboard the Destroyer USS Benham during the Korean War. After the Navy, he began his career at General Motors, Fisher Body Division, and retired as the Operations Manager for the computer operations department after 32 distinguished years. Ray and Dolores were founding members of the St. Sylvester Parish in Warren, where they still belong. Ray volunteered his service for over 40 years to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, holding various officer positions through the years. As a member of the GM Mens Club, he was the Muscular Dystrophy (MDA) Chairman for many years, another cause dear to his heart. In addition to his career and charitable work, Ray enjoyed entertaining around the family pool, golfing, playing cards and vacationing all over the US. He was the beloved husband, for 53 years, of Dolores (nee: Schmidt). Dear father of Ronald (Linda) Roy, Renee (Jeff) Jagow, Robert Roy, and Roger (Mary) Roy. Loving grandfather of Aryn, David, and Caroline. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by siblings, Michael and Ogla. Visitation for Ray will be on Thursday, January 20th from 3-9pm, with a 7pm Rosary Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd) in Warren. He will lie in state on Friday at St. Sylvester Catholic Church from 10am until the time of Mass at 10:30am. Following the church services, Naval Military Honors will be bestowed in tribute and recognition of Ray's service to our country. Entombment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township, Michigan.
