Richard W. Blohm, age 76 of Warren, died Friday, August 19, 2011 at the St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital, Macomb Center in Warren. He was born on January 23, 1935 in Detroit, son of the late Walter and the late Edna (nee: Nicholai) Blohm. With thanks & praise from a grateful nation, we honor Richard for his service to our country during the Korean War era. As part of the U.S. Army, he answered the call to duty and served proudly in defending the cause of freedom and liberty. Richard was employed as an auto worker with the General Motors Corporation where he extended many years of dedicated & loyal service until his retirement. He was a proud member of the UAW Local #160 where he enjoyed the comaraderie and brotherhood of his fellow automotive mates. When he wasn't working, one of his favorite pastimes still centered around automobiles as he loved to tinker with his personal vehicles. From keeping them mechanically sound to his attention to detail in keeping them clean & polished, there was nobody like Richard when it came to caring for his cars. And after all of this automotive tender-loving-care, he would often enjoy another of his favorite pastimes which entailed hopping in his motorized beauties and spending some time traveling the highways & byways seeing the sights. Richard loved spending time with family and friends, and those special times came in many different forms. Sometimes it was in the memories that were made camping together, and sometimes it simply involved a rousing game of cards or dominos. Then there were those outdoorsy ventures when he would join his buddies on their various hunting trips. For Richard, it wasn't so much about going for the seasonal game as it was simply enjoying the friendship factor of it all. Quite often, he found great enjoyment in cooking the meals for his fellow hunters. It was just all about "hangin' with the guys." But perhaps one of the most endearing traits he'll be remembered for was how much he loved his fireplace. In this man's castle, his fireplace was the coziest spot of all. Being in a state where the fireplace can be enjoyed for many months of the year, Richard spent countless hours cutting wood to stoke the flames of warmth & comfort that brought him immense joy and pleasure. And he could build a fire unlike any other. A loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, Richard leaves behind a legacy of love that will be treasured forever in the hearts and minds of all those who were blessed to know him. He will be missed immensely and loved eternally. Beloved husband, for over 54 years, of Carol (nee: Roscup). Dear father of Jeffrey (Melissa), Lisa (John) Clevenger, Paul, and Barbara (Stephen) Belanger. Also survived by seven grandchildren. Brother of Walter (Clarence), and the late Beverley Kronner. Visitation for Richard will be held on Sunday 5-9pm and Monday 2-9pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd) in Warren. He will lie in state on Tuesday from 9:30am until the time of his funeral service at 10:00am at Christ Lutheran Church, 32300 Schoenherr Road in Warren. Officiating the service will be Rev. Daniel Cave. Richard's entombment will follow at Cadillac Memorial Gardens East Cemetery in Clinton Township, Michigan. Please share memories of Richard at his guest book.
