Richard Douglas Mountain age 74, died Sunday January 19, 2020 peacefully at his home in Warren, Michigan. Richard was born March 17, 1945 in Ontario, Canada the son of the late Walter Mountain and the late Violet (nee: Moore) Mountain.
Richard was raised in Canada on a farm in Ontario. In his younger days Richard was like all boys living in Canada who followed all sports especially hockey. Following his schooling Richard moved to Michigan in search for employment within the burgeoning automotive industry. He worked for over 30 years as a truck driver for Chrysler Automotive Transportation.
Outside of work Richard's life and love revolved around his wife and home... he was passionate about the outside of his home and everyone on the block envied Richard's immaculate lawn and landscape. In addition he was a "car guy" who shared his love of racing and NASCAR with his wife's father and family, the famed Mauri Rose. While at home Richard would build model cars and airplanes along with small engine repair for anyone who would ask. Quiet time at home found Richard watching the Detroit Red Wings or any other Detroit sports team.
In 2018 Richard revisited his youth by purchasing a black SS Camaro, affectionately named Black Beauty. He pampered his car and only drove the car on the best weather days and got to enjoy his last summer with Black Beauty. During his career as a truck driver, Richard found an affinity for CB radios which continued his entire life.
After Richard retired from Chrysler Transportation he spent more time with his beloved wife and also became the go-to neighbor for help on many projects. He was a man of few words and left most of the talking to his wife Dori. Richard was left with a broken heart after his wife's death, however continued to care for others around him. He was a selfless person who gave of himself to so many friends and neighbors. He never complained of sickness from the initial diagnosis until his ultimate peaceful passing. He will forever be missed.
Richard was the loving husband of the late Doris Mountain, and the dear brother of Ronald Mountain, and the late Beverly Bondy. He was the brother in-law of Gerard Bondy and Mauri (Mickey) Rose Jr. Further survivors include his nieces and nephews; Kim (Rusty) Gyori, Todd (Annette) Bondy, Tracey Bondy (Keith), Scott (Jenny) Rose, Wendy (Brad) Santo, and great-uncle of Daniel, Ashley, Bradon, Hayden, Abby, Sophia, Ella, Brendan, and Hailey. Richard was also survived by many caring friends including his special neighbor and caregiver Amy Markus. Richard's family and Amy also wish to recognize the dedicated friends and "Caring Team" who cared for Richard, including Shirley, Sig, Dawn & Scott, Shelby, Kayla, and the Hospice team of Nicole and Lori. He could not have done it without all of you... and as Richard said, "I have nothing left on my bucket list".
Visitation for Richard will be held on Saturday from 2-5 pm, followed by a Memorial Service at 5 pm, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd) in Warren.
