Rita Lauretta Wilk, age 83 of Sterling Heights, died Monday, June 8, 2020 at the American House Sterling Woods of Sterling Heights, Michigan. She was born in Detroit on December 4, 1936, daughter of the late Emile and Alice Poirier (nee: Cadieux).
Rita was an active member at St. Faustina Catholic Church in Warren. She devoted her time by volunteering to clean the church, was a dear member of the Women’s Club, and she even had a seat in the Hand Bell Choir. When Rita wasn’t helping out at the church, you could usually find her at the monthly group meetings with the ladies in her Tripoley Game Club.
Rita was born and raised in Detroit, which is where she found the love of her life, Leonard, through a Catholic singles group. Together they spent 54 loving years of marriage. Rita was a devoted wife, loving mother, and extra special grandmother to her two wonderful grandkids with whom she loved spending time, especially on summer vacations.
Family time with Rita also consisted of the hours spent in her garden, planting and growing fresh vegetables like her zucchinis. She especially enjoyed picking cherries with her family from her well loved cherry tree in the yard. Once the cherries were picked, they were pitted and made into delicious desserts like her famous cherry cobbler. Rita leaves a legacy of love to be embraced with each reflection shared. She will be missed beyond expression and loved beyond measure.
Rita was the beloved wife of Leonard. Loving mother of Michele (Michael) Wilton. Adored grandmother of Kaitlyn and Matthew Wilton. Cherished sister of Dorothee (the late Lawrence) Boczar, Susanne (Dennis) Skorupski, and Lucy (Bob) Hengstebeck. Dear sister-in-law of Irene Wilk.
Visitation for Rita will be held Thursday, June 11th from 6-9 pm, with a 7 pm Rosary Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd.) in Warren. She will lie in state on Friday from 10:00 am until the time of her Funeral Mass at 10:30 am at St. Faustina Catholic Church, 14025 Twelve Mile Road, Warren, MI 48088. Please be advised that a mask is required to enter the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are appreciated to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Diabetes Association.
