Working hard in his construction job, Russell more than earned his time away to enjoy the things that helped bring a bit of balance to life,…like his affinity for music. They say “music soothes the soul,” and that was certainly the case for Russell. Though his tastes were broad, he derived extra-special pleasure each time the Beatles, Elton John, or Nirvana graced the airwaves. All three iconic in their own right, Russell knew what he liked and coveted each song that quickened reflective memories of each performer’s artistry. And for as much as Russell liked listening to music, he was also quite the movie buff, too. A comfy easy chair, a bowl of popcorn, and he was ready for a bit of cinematic pleasure that filled his down-time wonderfully.
Another of Russell’s favorites was dancing. Possessing “electric energy” and a love for the music of Detroit’s, “techno scene,” he found great enjoyment and pleasure in movin’ to the tunes and sharing the experience with all of his fellow techno friends. Held every Memorial Day weekend in Detroit, it was the perfect way for him to unwind and get refreshed,…all to the sounds of techno music, and his affinity for dancing.
Like many guys, Russell was also enthralled by the world of sports. From the genre of football to the field of baseball, he did a great job in playing the role of Armchair Quarterback, and equally so as a Big Team Baseball Coach. But by far, his favorite sporting pleasures were those enveloped by the game of hockey. He loved everything about the game. The non-stop action and grittiness of the sport all played a part in his appreciation and enjoyment. It was definitely a welcomed escape.
But of all that brought him the most joy, nothing could hold a candle to the love and support of family. He loved hangin’ out with them, spending time in their company, and helping to create the wonderful memories that forever kept them close. Family meant the world to Russell, and their presence in his life were some of the greatest strengths he clung to in life. They were truly his most precious gifts.
A loving son, brother, grandson and uncle, Russell leaves a storehouse of wonderful memories created with those he loved the most. Though he leaves us far too soon, it is certainly not without touching a multitude of hearts and souls in his journey this side of Heaven. May he, now, enjoy the blessings on the other side as he rests safe in the Father’s arms. He will be missed beyond expression and loved beyond measure.
Russell was the beloved son of mother, Mary Ellen Welling, and father, Russell Mark Dixon, Sr. (Pam). Dear brother of Renee Dixon (Michelle) and Jennifer Dixon (Adrian). Loving uncle to Paige, Blake, and Aiden, and cherished grandson of Camelia Welling. Russell is also survived by his treasured aunts, uncles, cousins, and many other close family members and friends.
