Ruth was born on March 4, 1924, in Quincy, Massachusetts, to Arthur and Hannah (Day) Woutersz. The family moved to Detroit, Michigan, when Ruth was an infant, making southeast Michigan her home for the next 100 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Arvilla Seres, John Woutersz, Larry Woutersz, and Mary Eunice Iler; and her devoted husband of 57 years, Edward Marcel Staniek.
Ruth is survived by her children, Edward Staniek (Sharon), Ruthann Popour (Paul), and Chris Staniek (Cathy); 14 grandchildren, Alexis Strizich (Jeffrey), Nicole Bennett (William), Russell Staniek (Rebecca), Kendra Nielsen, Sonya Loshaw (Ben), Noelle Kahaian (Michael), Chris Staniek, Jr. (Megan), Eric Staniek, Marcella Staniek (Lori), Tricia Krym (Jaime), Deanne Varenas (Kenny), Erin Reiman (Jeremy), Matthew Staniek (Kimberly), and Andrea Gaines (Damon); 33 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great grandchildren!
“Millie” (as people called her) loved the USA and being part of the Greatest Generation. She supported the war effort as a WWII military production worker in Detroit, where she met her husband, Eddie, and they were married on March 6, 1943. Ruth devoted the rest of her life to loving and caring for her family and friends, often aiding others in her own home. Although her main focus was her family, she also enjoyed team bowling, photography, cooking, and baking, and she will always be remembered for her love of cardinals.
Most importantly, Ruth Staniek will be remembered as a woman who exemplified Matthew 22:37-39 by faithfully loving God with her whole being. Her quiet, consistent example of Christian love caused most people who knew her to regard her as the purest person they have ever met. Because for Ruth Millie Staniek, everyone she met was her neighbor, whom she loved as herself.
