June 18, 1935 – August 25, 2025
Shirley Ann Heinzman (née Helton) passed away peacefully on August 25, 2025, at the age of 90, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s and COPD.
Born in Detroit, Michigan, Shirley was raised in Harper Woods by her parents, Kenneth and Ann Lennie Helton. She grew up alongside her beloved younger sister, Sandra Schnering, with whom she shared a deep and lasting bond.
Recently, Shirley relocated to California to be near her youngest daughter. While it may not have been her favorite place to live, she found joy in being close to family, a constant source of love and strength throughout her life.
Shirley was a devoted mother to three children: Kenneth (Mary), Kimberly (Kenneth), and Pamela (Keith). She adored her grandchildren Tom, Jim, Kayleigh, Matt (Elayna), Taylor, Colton, and Kyle. She was especially proud of her great-grandson, Benjamin.
Family was the heart of Shirley’s world. She cherished her niece, nephew, and their families, as well as a wide circle of cousins. Before her move, she made a point to meet monthly with a close-knit group of lifelong friends who meant the world to her. She even maintained a warm friendship with her former husband of 25 years, Howard Heinzman.
Shirley’s greatest passion was baking. Whether it was a batch of cookies for coworkers or neighbors, or a full spread of pies during the holidays, each one someone’s favorite, she poured love into everything she made. Her Christmas cookie marathons were legendary, filling her home with warmth and sweetness that she joyfully shared with all. Her baking became so beloved that her boss once joked about adding a bakery to the building so her treats wouldn't be missed after she retired.
Shirley’s kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for her family and friends left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts, and recipes, of those she loved.
There will be a memorial service for Shirley at D.S Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Rd, Warren, MI 48093 on December 6, 2025, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, service starting at 12:00 pm.
