Shirley was a prayerful and thankful woman. She was devoted to praying daily for her family, friends and even strangers, as well as recognizing her blessings and giving thanks to our Lord. Throughout her life she was a caregiver many times and lovingly caring for her husband, her mother and her grandmother in their times of need. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She treasured spending time with her family especially when it came to sharing a meal. Shirley loved to eat grilled hamburgers and hot dogs and especially loved breaded pork chops! At Christmas time it was traditional that she purchase cheesecakes off of a shopping channel for her family to enjoy. That was her holiday dinner contribution of choice! To say she had a sweet tooth was an understatement, cookies were always found in her refrigerator and she believed in eating dessert first! A generous heart was one of her strong traits. Her love and empathy for sick children prompted her to donate monthly to St. Jude Children's research hospital as well as many other charities. She never let a good deed go unnoticed as she would tip her grandchildren $20 to carry a case of water in from the car!
Country music was one of the pleasures in life she enjoyed. Especially when sung by her favorite artist, Toby Keith. Shirley loved to shop and when it became more difficult to go out to the mall, she shopped off of TV shopping channels. Buying jewelry, household items and treats for herself and the ones she loved. She kept entertained by watching shows of yesteryear, old and new movies, news and was an avid reader of gossip magazines. Shirley loved things to look neat and orderly and loved flowers and decorating her door and porch with wreaths and flowers for every season.
Shirley's love, compassion, and generous spirit will be missed by many. In lieu of flowers, please send your donation in Shirley's name to her favorite charity: St. Jude Children's research hospital.
