Shirley Bernice Walker, (nee: Nedow), age 93 of Warren, Michigan, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2020.
Shirley was born February 15, 1927 to Gerald and Lorraine Nedow in Detroit, Michigan. She was a born singer who performed in pageants and talent shows as a young child. After graduating from Lincoln High School in 1945, she worked as a singer and entertainer with the George Olsen Band on a boat tour that ran from Detroit to Buffalo, NY. In 1950, she married her husband, Carl. The young couple lived in several small bungalows in Warren where they raised their two children before building their dream home in 1970. Shirley worked as a secretary for General Motors Company for over 20 years and retired in 1982. She was a devout Catholic and a member of Ascension Catholic Church, St. Clement’s Catholic Church, and St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church. Throughout her life she continued to sing as a church choir member and soloist and as a member of the Sweet Adeline’s International Choir.
An avid sports fan, Shirley never missed a game. From college to professional, she especially enjoyed watching hockey, baseball, and football. However, baseball was her favorite and she loved the Detroit Tigers. Shirley was also a talented artist who loved to draw, paint, and sew.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Carl in 1987, her daughter, Linda Dauffenbach in 2014, and her partner of more than ten years, Gerald Michelin in 2004. Shirley is survived by her son-in-law John (Linda) Dauffenbach, Jr., son Timothy (Sally) Walker, grandchildren Cara (Michael) Cherry, Richard (Crystal) Dauffenbach, Lindsey (Josh) Hendrickson, Krysta (Joe) Junkins, Lauren Walker, and ten great-grandchildren including Caitlin, Colin, and Lillian.
Shirley will lie in state on Monday, November 9th from 9:00 am until the time of her Funeral Mass at 9:30 am at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, 31555 Hoover Rd, Warren, MI 48093.
