Sylvia J. Rhodes

Sylvia Jean Rhodes, age 67 of Fountain Hills, Arizona died Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at Scottsdale Health Care in Scottsdale Arizona. Sylvia was born January 12, 1944 in Detroit, Michigan the daughter of the late Lawrence Bonkowski and the late Estelle (nee: Nowakowski) Bonkowski. Sylvia was raised in Detroit and graduated from St. Cyril & Methodius Catholic High School. Following high school she went on to attend and graduate from Wayne State University and later received her Masters Degree in Education. Sylvia retired in 1996 from the Utica Community Schools as a teacher for more than 30 years.When Sylvia was not working she and her husband Rocky enjoyed boating and going to antique car shows, while showing off their own 1959 Corvette. Later she and her husband Rocky retired to Fountain Hills, Arizona.Sylvia is survived by her dear husband Herbert 'Rocky' Rhodes and her sister in-law Christine Bonkowski. She was also the beloved aunt of Robert (Constance) Bonkowski, Lori (Charles) Penn, Mark (Suzanne) Bonkowski, and Lisa (Bob) Gracin. Also surviving are many loving family members and friends. She was predeceased by her brother Ronald Bonkowski and her parents.Visitation for Sylvia will be Saturday November 26th from 5-9pm and Sunday November 27th, from 2-7pm. Sylvia will lie in state Monday 11am at St. Louise Catholic Church until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:30am. Celebrating the Funeral Liturgy will be Rev. Thomas Rice.
