Thaddeus Gerard Okon

Passed away on September 27, 2025, at the age 70. Beloved father of Nancy (Michael) Slifka. Cherished Papa of Jacqueline, Caroline, and Madeline. Dear brother of Maryanne (the late James) Harr, Louise Okon, Elizabeth (Thomas) Coles, Kathleen Okon, and the late Paul Okon and the late Evelyn Delores Okon. He leaves behind many loving relatives and close friends, including his dearest friend of nearly three decades, Boris Muchnij.

Ted was born on September 18, 1955, in Detroit, Michigan to his late parents Thaddeus J. and Emma L. Okon. Known early on as the chef for his family, he had a remarkable talent for cooking and baking, and he shared that gift during his years as a pastry chef at Diamond Bake Shop. He also served as a manager at Shopper’s Market in Warren, Michigan, during which time he made friendships that would continue to endure.

As a father, Ted was his daughter’s biggest supporter – always uplifting her through adversities and celebrating her achievements. As a grandfather, his greatest joy came from spoiling “his lovely girls.” Their hugs and smiles would brighten his days indefinitely. Finally, as a brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great-uncle, nephew, cousin, father-in-law, friend, and neighbor, Ted was a constant source of warmth and joy who always put their needs before his own. His presence was a constant source of comfort that will be missed immeasurably.

Ted will be remembered for his culinary talents, his unwavering devotion to his Catholic faith, and most of all, for the deep love he had for his family and friends.

A funeral Mass will take place at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church 31555 Hoover Rd, Warren, MI 48093 on Friday, October 10, 2025, Instate 9:00 a.m., Mass 9:30 a.m.
