Violet Lanell Bullock, age 101 of Warren, and formerly of Tennessee, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, February 22, 2020. She was born July 27, 1918 in Cookeville, Tennessee, daughter of the late Robert and the late Emma (nee: Prichard) Rockwell.
It was one fate-filled day when a young gentleman entered into the picture of Violet’s life, the handsome Dave H. Bullock. Little did they know, then, just how deeply love would take hold,…but it surely did, and set the stage for what would be a journey of bliss for the two lovebirds. Married in 1942 at a church in Georgia, Violet was 24 years of age when she promised herself to Dave, and the two became one as husband & wife to walk their path of love. That journey ensued for the next 62 years and welcomed three beautiful children into the world. Together they built upon the comforts of home and grew deeper in love with each passing day.
Violet was a consummate homemaker and Mom and poured the best of her caring spirit into her family and homestead. It was definitely a full time devotion, yet she knew how to balance her time to be afforded the opportunities for pleasures she enjoyed,…like tending to her garden. Possessing an impressive green thumb and the heart of a horticulturalist, Violet’s garden was a thing to behold, and definitely her pride & joy. Rife with both flowers and vegetables, she was proud to acknowledge its designation as a “Victory Garden,” a term attributed to the support of our troops during World War II. Her flowers were an immense source of beauty, and her vegetables a source of sustenance as Violet came from the days when the Mom’s & Grandma’s were quite astute at canning,…of which Violet was the Queen.
For those who truly knew Violet and her interests, then you’ll remember just how much she was taken with the dinnerware set of “Depression Glass.” Forged in a unique style and cast in an array of distinctive colors, the “period piece” glassware was something for which Violet had become quite the collector and fan. She owned a number of pieces collected over many years, and was also one who shared from her collection with many in the family. Over time, Depression Glass has grown to be of great value in the antique world. Just imagine how much more precious these pieces have now become to those with whom she shared?
Another pastime Violet enjoyed was reading. When the chores were done and she managed to squirrel away some time to herself, little could hold the pleasure of curling up with a good book and getting lost in its pages. Whether it was the mysteries of Agatha Christie or the love sagas from Louie L’Amour, Violet was an avid page turner who appreciated the gift of the written word,…and of course, a good story.
Yet of all that brought her joy and pleasure, nothing could match the undying love she held for her family and the loved ones closest to her heart. At 101 years of age, Violet had seen a lot, witnessed much, and could have written a book of her own on the progression of this world in which we live. But it was the timeless, unchanging aspect of love that stood the test of time and impacted her life the most,…the immeasurable love that she and her loved ones knew. After 62 years of marriage to the love of her life, Dave’s passing has left a chasm for the past 17 years,…a chasm that is now lovingly bridged as they are reunited in the throes of Heaven, safe in the arms of God.
Violet was the beloved wife of the late Dave H. Bullock. Dearest mother of Sharon (David) Williams, David (Grace) Bullock, and Robert (the late Denise) Bullock. She was the loving grandmother of Troy (Michelle) Williams, Teren (Brad) Seacrest, Trudie (Jonathan) Wentzlaff, Tully (Monica) Williams, Tonia (Brad) Darge, Tad (Amber) Williams, Toby (Becky) Williams, Trisha Williams, Tate (Abby) Williams, Timon (Ilinca) Williams, Topaz Williams, Jena (Edd) Bowen, Scott (Kara) Bullock, Danielle (Carl) Wright, and the late John Bullock. Violet treasured her 55 great-grandchildren and her 2 great-great grandchildren as well. Sister of Nan Rice, and preceded in death by her twin sister, Roselle Richardson, sister Imogene Billbrey, and brothers Alden and Tom Rockwell. She is also survived by her precious sister’s-in-law, Karen Rockwell, Betty Newman, and Mary Carter.
