

Walter H. Red Hamby, age 81 of Detroit, died Saturday, March 20, 2004 at St. John Macomb Hospital Center, in Warren, Michigan. He was born April 27, 1922 in Tellico Plaines, Tennessee the son of the late John Hamby and the late Maggie (nee: Nelson) Hamby. His wife Martha survives him, along with his children Betty Sue Henderson of Georgia, Christine Brown of Florida, Mary Beth (Dave) Hull of Michigan, Jo (Larry) Fish of Tennessee, Brenda (Jerry) Dillon of Michigan, Glenda (Mike) Fournier of Michigan, Sandy House of Michigan, and Tony Hamby of Michigan. He is the dear Brother of Joe, Alfred, Richard, Elizabeth, Nancy, Lois all of Georgia, and the late, Maudie, Willamay, and J.W. Hamby. Brother in-law of the late James Barnes, and Mae Dial. Father in-law of the late Donald Henderson and Jim Brown. Also survived by 23 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great- grandchild. His two granddaughters Elizabeth and Candy also predeceased him. He served as a Corporal in the Army during World War II, with the 54th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Replacement Training Battalion. Mr. Hamby entered his military service out of Ft. McPherson Georgia and was discharged in 1945 from Ft. Bliss Texas, after being detained as a Prisoner of War and receiving the Bronze Star. He worked and retired from Chrysler Motors Dodge Main Plant as a welder. Funeral services will be held Tuesday March 23rd, at 12:00 noon at the D. S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home in Warren, Michigan. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Detroit. Visitation will be held on Monday March 22, 2004 from 2-9 P.M. at the Funeral Home.
