On January 31, 2020 the air was crisp, but relatively warm, and the sunshine was brilliant. This is the day that the dearest of human beings left this earth. Emmet Edward Raymond Deschene, born on May 11, 2001, gave us the gift of 18 years of memories, leaving a remarkable footprint on this earth.
Emmet was the beloved son of Daniel and Katherine Sarah Deschene. He was the older brother of Benjamin who he adored most in this world and protected fiercely throughout his life.
Emmet, formerly known as Emma Katherine Rose, was also the cherished grandson of Mary Susan (Lombardi) Hennigan and the late Edward M. Hennigan of Rumford, Rhode Island, both formerly of Narragansett, Rhode Island. He was also loved dearly by his late grandmother Winifred (Padden) Deschene, formerly of Tiverton, Rhode Island. He was predeceased by his grandfather, Julian Deschene.
Emmet, a graduate of Seekonk High School, was currently an employee at Stop and Shop while also pursuing a career and higher education in the arts. He was a gifted self taught artist, photographer, musician, writer, and an avid reader. He also loved animals, often saving them from harm. He leaves his two dogs Sadie and Jack. Two weeks prior to his death and to the surprise of his mother, he brought home a mouse he named Gouda. It was not unusual to find all types of pets and animals brought home without warning to his parents. Emmet had an affinity and love for all animals, nature, the ocean, especially Block Island, and all of humankind.
Emmet was a treasured friend to many as his heart was overflowing with compassion and love. He also possessed a wonderful sense of humor, drawing us all to him through laughter.
Emmet was also the dear nephew of Neil Hennigan, John Borden and his wife, Valentina, the Reverend James Deschene, Stuart Yamane, Thomas Deschene and his wife, Ann Marie. He was the Godchild of Suzanne Lanciaux Mitchell and the late Robert Deschene, who was also his uncle. Emmet leaves behind multiple aunts, uncles, and cousins. His unexpected absence has left a broken heart for his many first cousins, especially Julie Deschene McCoy, Donna Deschene, Courtney Conomacos, Amanda Cox, and Kevin Riznik. Emmet would also be broken hearted to know he has left many dear second cousins who brought the greatest of joys to him.
Calling hours will be held at Wilbur Romano Funeral Home in Warren, Rhode Island from 4-7 on February 14.
Emmet’s Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 in the morning at the Barrington Congregational Church United Church of Christ, 461 County Road, Barrington, Rhode Island 02806. Burial will follow at Saint Alexander’s Cemetery, Greenlawn Street, Warren, Rhode Island.
All are welcome to join us to share your love for Emmet (Emma) and to help make his life an instrument of peace, acceptance, and love. Emmet’s imprint on this earth will forever serve as a reminder to all of us to protect the vulnerable, accept each other with love, and to be our authentic selves. Emmet was so courageous in this often cruel world.
