Born in Indonesia, she was the daughter of the late Frans Eugene Nievaart and Charlotte Dorien Linthout. Her family settled in Holland after WWII. She came to the US by herself as a young woman in 1960 and was very proud to become an American citizen in 1964. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse and work at RI Hospital in Pediatrics for 32 years.
Genie was a long time member of Abundant Life Assembly of God in Swansea, where she supported many of its children’s and mission’s projects. She was an avid knitter and took great joy in giving people gifts she had knitted. Many babies she knitted blankets and sweaters for are now adults. She also had a fascination with the American Southwest. The Grand Canyon was on her bucket list and she made it there a few years ago.
Survivors include three brothers, Peter Nievaart and his wife Lisa, Nono and Bob Spits and their wives, one sister, Lody, nieces, nephews, cousins and a niece Genie de Prie, (her namesake), grand nieces and nephews, great grand nieces and nephews all still residing in Holland and Germany. She was predeceased by her sister Ida.
Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Abundant Assembly of God, 135 New Meadow Rd. Swansea. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions in her honor may be made to Abundant Life Assembly of God 135 New Meadow Rd., Swansea, MA 02777.
