

Castro, John J. Jr., 90, passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2015. He was the husband of the late Anita (Caisse) Castro to whom he was married for 61 years. Born in Fall River, MA he was the son of the late John and Maria (DaMata) Castro.
Mr. Castro was a Veteran of the US Coast Guard during WWII. He began a career at the Barrington Lumber Company in 1949 as a truck driver and worked his way through the ranks becoming manager, secretary, treasurer, vice president and then co-owner by 1980. He received Lumber Person of the Year awards from the Northeastern Retail Lumber Association. Mr. Castro was chosen by the members of the Rhode Island Lumber & Building Material Dealers Association for outstanding contributions to the industry, his support for the association and his civic activity. He was also a member of the board of management of the Barrington YMCA, FOPA Barrington Lodge 18, RI Police Chief’s Association and a 20-year member of the Bristol County Chamber of Commerce. He was an avid swimmer and member of the Barrington YMCA Hall of Fame for swimming more than 6000 miles by the age of 86.
He is survived by his two daughters, Nancy Schauble of Barrington and Carla Simons and her husband Dave of Richmond; grandchildren, Eric Schauble, Amy Sirois, C.J. Simons and Caisse Simons; and great-grandchildren, Madison and Taylor.
