

Stouffer, Nancy Ruth (Long), 79, passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2016 surrounded by her family. She was the loving and dedicated wife of Jack E. Stouffer, to whom she was married for 58 ½ years. Born in Cumberland, MD, she was the daughter of the late William D. and the late Dorothy (Keith) Long.
Mrs. Stouffer was an over achiever from early on. She won the Music Award her senior year from Allegany High School in Cumberland, MD, she was a leader in 4H in sewing and design and won the Style Show for Maryland in 1952. She earned her B.S in Piano from Meredith College in Raleigh, NC and her M.A. in Special Education from Adelphi University in Garden City, NY.
She taught elementary level in the Redland School District, PA and in Bedford County, PA. She then taught 6th grade at the First Lutheran School in Los Angeles, CA. She spent 16 years teaching at Belport High School on Long Island, NY. Not only did she teach, but she supported her students inside and outside the classroom. She anonymously provided food, clothing and school supplies, no student of hers went without.
Mrs. Stouffer was the co-creator of the Tutorial Assistance Program (TAP), a program targeting at-risk youth, an organist and choir director for the Calvary Lutheran Church in Hauppauge, NY and most recently a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Barrington.
Besides her husband Jack, she is survived by her son, John E. Stouffer and his wife Andrea Lain of Delmar, NY; daughter, Suzanne Piacentini and her husband Vero of Barrington, RI; brother, Donald Long; sister, Dorothy J. Long; and grandchildren, Sam, Emma and Isaac Stouffer and Timothy and Ava Piacentini. She was the sister of the late Barbara Craig.
