Born on June 6th, 1930, in Washington, DC, Agnes George Heon, affectionately called "Becky," entered this world as a testament to the union of Ifigenia and George C. Heon. Her father, George, an immigrant from Greece, became one of the most prominent Greek businessmen in both Georgetown, DC and Chase Chase, MD.
Becky passed away peacefully on January 28th, 2024, surrounded by the warmth of her loving and devoted family. A true Washingtonian, she spent her formative years with her three siblings: the late Mary George Carpousis, Constantine Heon, and Louis George Heon - working at the family businesses and enjoying summers at their family pool in Chevy Chase.
Becky was truly one of a kind. She was a prolific painter and leaves her adoring family with an extensive collection of beautifully framed art work that they hold dear. She enjoyed summers at Delaware beaches, skiing in Sun Valley, swimming, playing tennis, exploring art galleries, and sampling cuisines from countries around the world. She was blessed with a large, supportive, adventurous, and fun-loving group of friends throughout her life who often accompanied her on travels across the U.S. and Europe.
All her life, Becky lived with her sister, Mary George Carpousis, at their cherished family home. Together, Becky and Mary made the world a more colorful, warm, entertaining place to be for their family. They sang with the children and told them elaborate, enchanting stories. These are experiences we cherish and will carry with us forever.
When Mary's husband, Dr. Aris Carpousis, suddenly passed away, leaving behind six young children, Becky dedicated herself to supporting her sister and their family. Embracing her role as a second mother, she devoted her life to nurturing and loving these children, who eventually blessed her with nine grand nieces and nephews. Her family will forever be grateful for her adventurous spirit, generosity, kindness, and love. Aunt Becky was a wonderful friend to us. And she was always game for anything fun!
Preceded in death by Ferne and Aris Carpousis Jr., Becky is survived by Pamela Carpousis (Richard Seifert), Dr. Dean Carpousis, Catherine Carpousis (Robert Teachout), and Greg Carpousis, by her very close cousin Christie Harris, and her brothers’ children George L., George C., Jane, Peter, Louie, and Angie Heon. Her adored grand nieces and nephews, Dr. Catherine Gouge (Katherine Lewis), Christopher, Nicholas, Alexander, Gregory, Isabella, and Alexandra Carpousis, as well as Stephen (Yasmin Malhotra), and Paul Vallimarescu, will forever cherish the unconditional love and joy she gave them.
The most important thing to know about Becky is that she radiated pure love, and her devoted nieces, nephews, and cousins will carry the immeasurable warmth and care of her affection throughout their lives. The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Julie Bonsu for her loving and devoted care for Becky.
A visitation will be held this Wednesday, February 7th, at 10 am at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church in Washington, DC, followed by services at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church.
