

Dr. Albert E. Marland, Jr. (Age 87) died Monday, July 26, 2010 after a fall at his home in Bethesda, MD. He practiced internal medicine in the District of Columbia for 45 years. His education was local; Sidwell Friends School, Georgetown University and Georgetown Medical School. Dr. Marland served as a Medical Officer in the Navy during World War II from 1942 to 1956 and was a Medical Doctor at Bethesda Naval Hospital during his 14 year Naval Service. He took a graduate degree in medicine at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1955. Dr. Marland practiced medicine in Washington, DC with his father Albert, Sr. and his brother Jackson T. Marland. He was married to Katherine Hutchison who died of cancer in 1988. After serving in the Navy Dr. Marland was appointed to the White House Staff by President Harry S. Truman and President Dwight David Eisenhower. Dr. Marland belonged to the Columbia Country Club and the University Club in the District. He is survived by his wife Josephine C. Marland and his son Albert E. Marland, III and his wife Mary H. Marland; four step-daughters, Junia Baker, Mary Jo Pendleton, Lucille Seaton and Margaret Humphrey. Relatives and friends are invited to call at Joseph Gawler's Sons, Inc., 5130 Wisconsin Ave., NW (Corner of Harrison St.) Washington, DC on Friday, July 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. where services will be held on Saturday, July 31 at 11 a.m. Interment Rock Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to the American Red Cross, 4700 Mt. Hope Drive, Baltimore, MD 21215 would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Joseph Gawler's Sons, Inc., Washington, DC.
