
Retired Attorney
Alice L. Washington, longtime resident of Chevy Chase, died December 5, 2011 at Maplewood Park Place in Bethesda after a fifteen-year battle with Multiple System Atrophy.
She spent her growing-up years in Coco Solo, Pearl Harbor, San Diego, Mare Island, and other Naval bases on both coasts, where her father served as an officer in the U.S. Naval Civil Engineer Corps.
Following her Magna Cum Laude degree, she attended graduate schools at New York University and George Washington University. Her J.D. degree was earned at the American University's Washington College of Law after her two children were in college. Following retirement from the practice of law, Mrs. Washington spent many years as a real estate agent.
Her volunteer work included membership on the Ladies Board of the House of Mercy and Washington Antique Show committees. Before marriage she held positions of responsibility, among which were Counselor with the Multiple Sclerosis Center and Assistant Director of Personnel at Geico.
She is survived by her husband, John A. Washington; her daughter, Lacey; son, John, and granddaughter, Claire Cronin.
Burial will be at Zion Episcopal Church in Charles Town ,West Virginia. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m, Saturday, December 10, at Maplewood Park Place.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Fourth Presbyterian Church for the Youth Ministry.
