This man changed my life in huge ways. As a result of working with him on a Port City Players production he took an interest in my ambition to be a teacher and convinced Marymount University to allow me at enroll in the graduate humanities program even though my undergraduate record was unremarkable. That is all I needed. Two masters degrees later I enjoyed an exciting and enriching career teaching high school English. It would not have happened without Dr. Hagy.

Dr. Hagy changed my life.  He believed in me and made me have confidence in myself I never knew I had.  I will always be grateful to him for the person he helped me become.  I was a scared sophomore at Marymount when I met him, but a confident senior with an English minor because of him.  I think of him often and tell others about him.  He will never be forgotten.  I will miss him, but always carry him with me.

He was a wonderful person and changed my life at marymount.I still remember his quote to me it was a real pleasure both in the classroom and back stage-my heart is sad- he will be in heaven teaching. What a wonderful man who taught me so much-marymount grad monica bode-mcdonald

Some of my best memories of O'Connell are those with Mr.Hagy and drama. Such a good teacher! My condolences Ruth.

Mr.Hagy was that special kind of person, a teacher who not only encouraged teens to be and do their best but also he'd light an enthusiasm toward literature and drama.  He was firm, kind and could laugh at the silliness of life.

Wow.  Mr. Haby was an awesome teacher.  I had him Freshman and Senior year at O'Connell and he is and all time favorite on the roster of teachers I had growing up.  Condolences to Ruth Oyen, my classmate at the time.  Much love and fond memories to Mr. Hagy.

What a special 9th and 11th grade English teacher he was when I was at O'Connell High School. He was one of a few teachers at the school who encouraged me to do better and made me believe in myself.  I was fortunate to visit him at Marymount University in the early 2000s and was honored when he told me to stop calling him "Mr. Hagy" and to call him "Boyd."  I always called him "special."

I first met Boyd at Normandie Farms many years ago and introduced Boyd and Andy to all my friends at the restaurant. I enjoyed talking to Boyd about directing plays and the entertainment world. I still remember him laughing over my "life adventures" and giving me wise advice. Boyd would light up the room and he was the first person I would talk to when I walked into the restaurant. Boyd never showed sadness, worry, or any negative feelings. He enjoyed life to the fullest and was always a joy and pleasure to be around. I will miss you Boyd. Yout friend, Sharon

What can be said about a teacher who impacted one's life almost 50 years ago @ DJO and is still so fondly remembered- he taught me how to appreciate English Literature  and not be so shy.  I have thought of him often and am sure the students that followed me also consider themselves "lucky".  I will remember him and his family in my prayers.

I was so sorry to hear of the loss of my dear cousin Freddy, so many wonderful memories when we were growing up in Mt. Rainier. Mr. Hagy was very kind to me when I was a junior at DJ O'Connell High School a long time ago.  I have thought of him with fondness many times over the last years.  My deepest sympathy and condolences to you.
