

Of Washington, DC, passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at Georgetown University Hospital.
David Ray Hearn was born in Amherst, Ohio on May 25, 1930 to Lucile and Ray Hearn. He earned a music degree from Ashland University and a graduate degree from Case Western Reserve. He also studied at Oberlin College and Baldwin Wallace Conservatory, as well as served in the military as an ammunitions supply specialist and as a chaplain's assistant.
Mr. Hearn taught in the DC area for many years, eventually becoming head of the music department at Wheaton High School. He was also Music Director for St Paul's Lutheran Church for 46 years until his retirement in 2007. He was a long time member of the American Guild of Organists.
Mr. Hearn was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Marjory Schmitkens. He is survived by a first cousin, Olive Gerber of Ohio and many friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 4900 Connecticut Ave., NW, Washington, DC 20008.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the St. Paul's Lutheran Church Music Appreciation Fund.
