Dave and I worked together at ERDA, before U.S. DOE and remained in touch off and on with our mutual interests in rural electric cooperatives and energy issues.  I am shocked, and learning of this late but send my condolences to his wife and family.  He was a good professional friend and colleague.

It was an honor to know Dave and work with him in the electric cooperative movement.  He was a positive influence and a great leader.  My deep sympathy to his family in this difficult time.  I hope good memories of a life well lived sustain you all!

I worked with Dave at BGE  -  he was a great engineer and was extremely knowledgeable on almost any subject. He was a good friend and colleague and one hell of a poker player!

Liz and Lily, I am very sorry for your loss.  I enjoyed getting to know Dave and enjoyed our times as devoted soccer parents.  He was always cheerful and had a great outlook about coping with his health problems.  He will be missed!

Dave and I were brought together by the happy coincidence of both being middle aged new fathers of adopted Chinese daughters in the mid-1990s.  While we came from different worlds--an engineer working for an energy cooperative organization and an academic--over more than two decades; more than 10 vacation family trips together to marvelous places such as Antigua, Cancun, Italy, and China; and countless dinners, TV sports watching, and just hanging around together; we became very close and congenial friends.  There is even a photo of both of us sitting in a lounge in a China jewelry workshop in 2005 while Alice and Liz shopped, dozing off in identical poses.  I will always marvel at how cheerfully Dave bore the regular series of health crises and setbacks that characterized his final years, and I will sorely miss his company and good cheer.

My husband and I echo the sentiments of our son, Phil. Those were happy days in Catonsville. We were all young together raising our families. We left there in 1975 and lost touch with each other, but the memories of those times remain. We send you our deepest sympathies. Although I had few interactions with Dave during my tenure at NRECA, they were always very pleasant and productive.  I admired his incredible knowledge and professionalism.  My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.

Dear Mohre family,
  I was very sorry to hear of your loss.  It's been a long time since we've connected, but I've never forgotten the wonderful times growing up next door to you all in Catonsville in the 1970s.  Mr. Mohre was often involved in playing ball with us in the cul-de-sac, driveway or backyard, and we always enjoyed the Oriole games that we attended together (including seeing a triple play vs. the A's in 1973).  Looking back, it was notable that Mr. Mohre encouraged David (a lefty) to pursue his dream of being a catcher - and a pretty good one at that!   My deepest sympathies are with you all.

Words can't express my grief nor my total admiration for my colleague and friend.  The depth of knowledge, the incredible moments of humor in difficult policy discussions, the willingness to go the extra mile, the concern for and love of family and friends, the basic humanity of the man -- Never to be forgotten.  You will always be carried in my heart, Dave.

In my earliest days at NRECA, Dave spent about an hour of his time patiently instructing me about electricity and power delivery. I worked with him many times after that and soon became more impressed with his friendliness, humor than his profound understanding of this nation's grid. Somehow, he acquired a 1996 Honda Civic, which I bought from him more and a decade ago. He always inquired about whether I was treating it well -- giving it proper maintenance and such. I will miss him and I send prayers and thoughts to his family

I first met Dave when he was with Cajun, and had the pleasure of working with him over the years at NRECA. Whenever I see a reference to a Zombie (drink), I think of our dinner at an Annual Meeting in Orlando, where he decided to order a Zombie, and wondered whether the very young bartender had ever heard of that old drink (now popular again through the Tiki drink rage). And, when thinking about recovery from a downturn in power supply needs, I often cite his presentation that recoveries tend to be sudden and unpredictable. I'll truly miss him.

I've enjoyed working with Dave since the 1980s when he was with a co-op and later at NRECA.  He had a great sense of humor and treated everyone with respect.  He was extremely knowledgeable and willing to share that knowledge with others.  I never felt I couldn't walk into his office and ask him anything - one of the most approachable and dedicated people I've ever met.

Dave was a dedicated professional and I'm sure he was even more dedicated to his family. Knowing and periodically working with Dave for over 15 years was a joy and he will be missed forever. My condolences and prayers of peace to the family.

Dana, I am so sorry to hear of your Father's passing.  Praying you and your family will know "the peace that passes understanding..."  at this most difficult time.

Liz, Dave Jr, Dana, Derek, Lily and darling grandchildren: i will always think of Dave and the fun we had as cousins growing up. And later as we walked through different phases of our lives with our children. And lastly, as we were growing older, as time slowed us down but seemed to go faster. Dave was an important and effective leader for the electric cooperatives.  Knowledgeable, well respected and always current, he would know not only how to talk about an issue, but who to talk to as well.  I am very fortunate to have known and worked with him on various issues over the years.  He taught me so much and shaped my approach.  I will miss his energy and passion.

Dave will be greatly missed by those of us in the public power/co-op world. He was smart, funny, effective and very dedicated to protecting consumers.  I enjoyed working with him both at NRECA as a fellow employee and afterwards as an industry colleague.  His passing is a great loss to all of us. My deep condolences to the family.

Liz, I was very sorry to hear about David's passing. I remember meeting him at a crew regatta on the Georgetown waterfront, where your daughter and our son were competing when they were in high school. He seemed like a good and decent fellow. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this sad time.
