We are heartbroken at the news - we planning on coming to Washington next month and looking forward to seeing Greg. He excelled in his work, he was a beautiful soul, with strong spirit, sharp mind, wonderful wit and great fun. We miss him. We will pray for him, and offer our deepest condolences to his Family

My deepest sympathy to Greg’s family on his sudden passing.  I had the privilege of knowing Greg from when he was an MBA student at Emory University as I was head of Admissions at that time.  Greg was a fantastic individual who was smart and personable.  We were so proud of his career accomplishments after graduating from our program.   I am so very sorry for your loss.

My deepest sympathies go out to the DeNinno family and especially Greg’s kids. Your Dad was a great guy, one of the best I’ve been fortunate to get to know in our business.  I had the pleasure of knowing Greg as a business colleague for nearly 15 years.  If we were discussing a potential investment opportunity, I always knew Greg would come to the table well-prepared, insightful and willing to share his thoughts in a transparent, straightforward way. Greg was smart yet  humble, and did not take himself too seriously.  He loved his Cleveland sports and, as a Cleveland transplant, I could never quite match up to the depth of his knowledge and love for the Guardians and Browns but always had fun with those conversations. He will be greatly missed. 

I want to send my condolences to you all. I knew Greg as a student at Emory, where I work as an administrator.  I know our memories of happy times and Greg's wonderful qualities will bring you comfort. I am so sorry for your loss and hope that knowing we support you makes this time a little less difficult. 

Greg was one of the best at his craft.  Sharp, perceptive and always prepared.  I knew before walking into a meeting with Greg that my clients faced an uphill battle of intellect and tactical wit.  Beyond his professional talents, Greg was funny and truly authenticate, almost refreshing in that way.  We had dinner two weeks ago in Washington at an annual summer event where Greg was a staple.  I will miss his smile, his guidance and our time together. 

Greg was a kind and generous person and an inspiration to me. I was the most junior person on the investment team at HHMI from 2013-16. Greg made the time to really teach me and give me guidance, both professionally and personally, and always in his trademark style. He helped me through some struggles. We last spoke a couple weeks ago. He shared some great parenting advice along with a few good jokes and some great feedback on an investment idea. He always left me laughing and feeling energized and inspired. For me, that was Greg. He was a great mentor and an even better character. I hope his family knows that his kindness, generosity, wit, and wisdom had an impact on so many people. I feel fortunate to have crossed his path in this life and I am so sorry for your loss.

Greg was a wonderful colleague at HHMI.  He was an astute and perceptive investor with a record of success and he inspired the entire team with his enthusiasm.  I always admired the importance he placed on relationships, both personal and professional, and of course his understated sense of humor.  I am saddened by our sudden loss of Greg and want to convey my deepest condolences to his family at this difficult time.

My deepest sympathies to the DeNinno family and all of those who knew and loved Greg.  He was a tremendous professional but an even better person.  His kindness, warmth and wit will be sorely missed.  May he rest in eternal peace.

Dear DeNinno Family-
It was extremely tough to learn this news earlier this week.  
Greg and I met at Emory's Business school in the mid-1990s and were roommates for part of our time there.   Since I am from the Philadelphia area, we immediately bonded over the fact that both of our hometown sports teams don't get any respect and shared a dry sense of humor that we applied to sports, work, life in general.   
We remained in very regular touch over the years and saw each other during trips to DC and/or his trips to Atlanta.   
We also share the exact birthday - down to the year, so every May 3rd we would always have a call or text discussion related to "our birthday".   
Greg was also very instrumental from a career perspective, providing invaluable guidance and encouragement to me when I made a career change a number of years ago.  I will very much miss those and our other exchanges going forward.   
As others have noted, Greg VERY much loved his family and would talk about Selma, Carlos and Nora at length every time we were able to catch up.  
My deep condolences to all of his family and friends.  


Gregory was a regular at my cafe and it was always a pleasure to serve him. He was a kind and sweet man who always made an effort to remember my name, even though i was just his barista. His youngest daughter came in with him sometimes and she always had a smile on her face when she was with her dad. My condolences to the family, may he rest peacefully. 

Greg will be deeply missed by our family.  We're just at a loss for words.  Our prayers go to the DeNinno family and countless others grieving.

Condolences to the DeNinno family and all his friends. Honestly I’m still processing the sad news. Greg and I were both in the three semester program at Emory, and stayed friends after we graduated. We would meet up at least once a year and mostly talk about our families and kids. I will miss Greg’s incredible sense of humor, his honesty , his directness and unique view of the world. But most of all for his friendship.  I wish his family, and especially his kids strength in this incredibly hard time.

Greg was one of my best friends at AU. He made my freshman year there an easy transition as he was the figurative and literal conduit back Ohio. We saw the Indians in Baltimore countless times and Greg was my ride over our breaks to Ohio. Many of those trips from DC to Ohio included a Cavs, Browns, or Indians games back in the "motherland" as we called it. We reveled in educating our east coast friends about all the historical greatness that came from Ohio very little of which was sporting related in the 80's and 90's. We also bonded over love and missing our family dogs back in college which was probably as vulnerable as we could get back then.  As we grew older, we have kept in touch mostly via text and phone calls – almost always preceded by magical sports moments (Ohio State and Cavs), heartbreaking near misses (Indians/Guardians) and consistent let downs (Browns).  I will miss Greg and those conversations.  It will be impossible for me not to think of him and his family as I root for our teams.  My condolences to his family and rest of his friends.

I was deeply saddened and shocked to hear of Greg’s passing.  We first met when he joined HHMI 15+ years ago.  Most of our conversations revolved around the fun stuff in life, vacation spots we shared (AMI, Jersey Shore, etc) and his children whom he adored. His love and passion for his family was obvious.    

He was passionate about his work and smart as a whip but never took himself too seriously. His style and dry wit made me always laugh. 

Just a week ago we had breakfast in DC. We had a packed schedule and he came to us to save some travel time. He didn’t think twice about it. I will miss our beers at Millie’s and lunches at Martin’s.   

My deepest condolences to his family and long long list of friends. We really lost one of the good guys and he will be missed by all.

Dear Deninno family,

I was so shocked and saddened to hear about Greg’s passing. Honestly I am still processing this news. 

I had the true pleasure and honor of working with Greg over 10+ years and he committed capital to our investments funds while he was at Howard Hughes. 

Over time, our relationship grew from a professional one to that of a friend. Sure, we discussed work. But we also compared notes on our kids and our families often. Greg was always candid, honest, had a good sense of humor and was an honorable investment partner and human being. 

I will miss him and he was taken away from us too early in his life. My deepest condolences to the family. My prayers are also with you during this time of trial and perseverance.

I knew Greg since we worked together at the 1992 EXPO  will miss his wit, curiosity and passion for life . We always liked to have a good conversation and  my wife  Cynthia and I will cherish his memory.

Greg, thank you for attending my wedding in Spain.  I will never forget that night in the Expo when we went to the Jamaican National Day concert, and I met my future wife.  I almost didn't want to go out but fortunately (for me), you convinced me to do so.

Greg was a friend and former colleague.   We spoke regularly and bounced back and forth between two topics: investments and how terrible his Browns and my Jets were.   Since meeting in 2009, we texted or called each other every time our respective team made another boneheaded move.  We bonded over our healthy skepticism of our teams’ upcoming seasons.  He was a good man.   Over the years, I tried to convince him to take numerous great jobs that would have moved him away from his kids and he would never entertain the idea.   He loved his kids.  He was a good man, a good friend, a good father.  His dry sense of humor and delivery never got old.  I will miss him.   To Greg’s family, I hope you can take some comfort in knowing how great an impact he left on so many of us.  Wishing you peace as you grieve the loss of one of the great guys.

Greg and I worked together for many  years at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. He joined as an analyst,  but it became clear very quickly that his skills, intelligence and work ethic would allow him to progress quickly.  He joined our private investment team and immediately showed his ability to outproduce each of us,  with clarity and quality.  Greg and I worked closely, travelled together and stayed in touch after I left the Institute.  He was promoted to Managing Director , which was much deserved.  
He was a dedicated father and somehow managed a very demanding job and close parenting of his children.
I am deeply saddened by his passing and hope that his family can process their grief.  He will be missed
