

Long-time resident of Washington, DC, Gregory “Greg” C. Gerner, age 65, passed away peacefully at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland on Friday, October 31, 2014. He was born May 9, 1949 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Robert A. and Margaret M. Gerner. He spent most of his childhood in Canfield, Ohio, and was a 1967 graduate of Canfield High School. He received his B.A. from Antioch College, Ohio in 1972. On August 21, 2000, he married his beloved, Colleen.
He was President and Owner of Greg Gerner, Inc. for 35 years, and was known for his unrelenting commitment to excellence in all that he did.
Greg truly lived life to the fullest. He will be remembered for his amazing wit, his recall of facts and events, his sense of adventure, and for making ordinary days extraordinary ones. Greg had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way. He had an enormous love for music from the Big Band era to rock-n-roll and shared this love with all who knew him. He believed in preserving childhood traditions and created many special times incorporating them into family events.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents; brother Wayne Maxwell, and sister Cindy Olson. He is survived by wife Colleen; their two children, Andrew and Jennifer; brother Rob and wife, Julie; and a host of great friends and colleagues.
Family, friends, and others whose life Greg touched are invited to attend funeral services on November 8, 2014, at 10:00 AM, at St. Michael Parish, 300 North Broad Street, Canfield, Ohio 44406. Graveside services will follow at Canfield Village Cemetery. Relatives and friends are welcome back to the church for a reception luncheon. Donations can be made at the parish web site instead of flowers.
