Miss you with all my heart.  It's not getting any easier.

I just heard of Jim’s passing yesterday. This makes me so incredibly sad. Jim was such a kind person and incredibly dedicated to service and civic engagement. He was also so wonderfully supportive of me as a 20 something year-old professional doing this work. He always had different resources to share, and “what about” questions exploring new possibilities to ask. Rest In Peace, Jim.

My deepest sympathies to Jim’s family, friends, and colleagues. I enjoyed working with him on grant opportunities, and getting to know him as a friend. Jim’s commitment to Montgomery College students was inspiring.  

There are so many memories of Jim.....singing with him in a band, being directed by him at Montgomery College, being a cherished friend in my early life, best man at my first wedding.  There are no words to express my sympathy to his family.  He will be so missed by so many people.

I went to St. John’s with Jim when he was in the Mask and Wig. He was always the lead and I was always close behind. He was very talented and always delivered a top notch performance. We lost touch but I will always remember his energy and positive attitude towards every situation, I’m glad to see everyone’s thoughts from his time at MJC. Thank you for for your insight. He sounds like the same great guy I knew. I wish the very best for his wife and children.

Jim was a true pillar of Montgomery College--always deeply dedicated to serving students. His energy, leadership, and passion are the hallmarks of his service. 

To Jim's family: thank you for sharing him with MC for so many years. He touched the lives of thousands of students.

So sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. We hadn’t been in contact since high school graduation except for a few emails when Gene Morrill died, but I remember him as a talented, smart, and very friendly guy who always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. The world is a sadder place without him.

My thoughts and prayers. I always enjoyed working with Jim at the theatre and when I would come to the TPSS campus. He always had time for a chat and I always appreciated that.

Jim, your legacy will outlive you for generations. You were a mentor, friend, confidant, and more. I'll always appreciate those times you reached out after I left MC the first time, and I'll forever appreciate the ways you challenged and guided me as a young professional. May your memory be a blessing!

Jim was an amazing supervisor, mentor, and friend. Though our time together was short, I will cherish our long conversations, the work we did together, and the times we just needed to vent about the goings on of the week. Our meetings and calls were always the highlight of my week, his speech-to-text messages making me roll over in laughter. 
Many of Jim's sayings I wrote down in my notes, circled them six times and marked them with exclamation points. Sometimes they were irrelevant to the work that needed to be done, but they all serve me well to keep in mind moving forward. In my mind, I can hear him say "they don't know what they're doing, they don't have a plan"-- a moniker from a previous mentor of his, which I now carry with me. Jim taught me to be more thoughtful and intentional in all that I do, and I am deeply saddened that I don't have more time to talk, listen, and learn from him. 
My greatest condolences go out to Karen, Jaimie, and the rest of the Walters family. He mentioned you often, and I wish you the best. I hope you know how much he meant to me and many others, and that we will help carry on his legacy with you. 

I was so sad to learn about Jim's passing.  He left us too soon.  My condolences go to his family and friends.  

I had the privilege of working with Jim at Montgomery College.  During his tenure as the Director of Student Life, I served as the Advisor to the Latino Student Union, LSU, so we were in regular contact and coordination.  I felt supported by him.  He impacted the lives of so many students and was a great colleague.  

He will be remembered.

To Jim's family and friends. Jim was a winner who thought outside the box. He had a great rapport with students. I remember working late into the night with Jim on new student orientations. He supported an idea if he saw it would benefit students. He had a flare. A sparkle in his eyes. It was easy to feel at home with Jim. He left us too soon. Jay Marciano, Montgomery College

Our blessings and prayers are with you Ms. Karen and James for the loss of your husband, dad and friend to many.  During my time at Takoma Park, we had many times to develop a friendship and share experiences at work with his leadership development efforts, club engagements and opportunities for lunches.   We talked lots about family and I know he was loved and is greatly missed.   I especially enjoyed being an advisor for the Martial Arts Club and watching the many club presidents grow and develop their skills. 

Some of my fondest memories with Jim was talking with him and Dean Carlson (Mickie) over lunch at Mi Rancho while consuming  freshly made tortillas and Tex-Mex.  I enjoyed watching them go at each other with different approaches to learning and leadership.

It saddens me to know my friend has left us here.  I take comfort in cherishing those memories and fond times.   May the Lord comfort you and Walters family during this difficult time.

Jim was a devoted student developement professional who helped countless students aquire essential leadership and life skills which resulted  in  student success both in and outside the classroom. Jim, I adored you. You were one of my greatest friends, colleague, and my mentor.  You taught me more than you will ever know and for that I am eternally grateful ... and I know I am not alone. Sending support and love to the Walters Family.  Thank you for sharing Jim with the Montgomery College Family. Jim was a lifeline to me at the college when I needed one most. I don't know where I would be had he not been in my life as a kind and thoughtful supervisor and friend.  I know that I am one of hundreds, if not thousands whose lives he touched in that same way.  Mr. Rogers said to always look for "the helpers" in difficult times.  Jim was one of those helpers and will always be missed and remembered by those whose lives he touched. His memory will continue to sustain us in difficult times and warm us in happy ones.

Jim Walter was among the few people during my lifetime I looked up to and admired as a good person toward all people.  The communication and patience came with his calm demeanor.  During the short period I worked with Jim in Student Life, the skills he offered me moved me forward within Montgomery College.  I will always remember him.

My condolences and sympathies to the family of Jim Walters.  We were colleagues for such a long time in Maryland, sharing a deep commitment to students and the work we did across Maryland's community colleges to support access and success.  Jim was always the one to whom I gravitated when we needed to lean in and do the hard work and take the road(s) less traveled.  He loved Montgomery College! I will miss him!

Jim worked for the betterment of students at Takoma Park/Silver Spring and we will remember him fondly.

Jim was a good friend and a good person.  He  was a frequent visitor at the bookstore on campus and would always find time to chat with me.  His calm demeanor and easy going nature impressed me.  He was helpful to all students, especially to those who worked at the bookstore.  You will be missed Jim.

Jim, on behalf of the MC-TPSS family, we'll miss you so much.  Your amazing leadership and support for all us was unmatched, especially for our students leaders.   Karen and Jamie, thanks for sharing him with us.

Jim Walters was a friend and mentor, but most of all, he was a teacher. Thousands of students became leaders because he taught them well. Such a legacy of great good in this world. I miss my Uncle "Jim Boy" more than words can express.  I always joked we were so close that he was more like a big brother than an uncle, but because we didn't live together we never had any brother/sister fights.  You will live on in my heart forever.

Jim was a very bright and talented guy who treated everyone he met with dignity and respect. His easy, friendly manner enabled him to form lasting relationships with a variety of people. Always a headliner in life, he'll surely be one in heaven, too!
