Karen Lynette Lombardi was born and raised on Long Island, NY. Her passion for everything international came from a childhood home shared with Rotary exchange students from all over the world. After spending a year in Sao Paulo Brazil as a teenager, Karen developed a lifelong affection for the country, the culture and the language. While there she developed her interest in maternal and infant health, a commitment that stayed with her throughout her life. Karen will be remembered for being a wonderful and committed friend, and for her love of horseback riding, salsa dancing, and spending time at the beach.
Karen passed peacefully and courageously, surrounded by family and friends, and left us with this thought from the Course in Miracles:
We thank the body, then, for all the service it has given us. But we are thankful, too, the need is done to walk the world of limits ... We call it death, but it is liberty... time to rest a while from labor gladly done and gladly ended. Now we go in peace to freer air and gentler climate, where it is not hard to see the gifts we gave were saved for us.
