

Of Bethesda, Maryland, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2014, at home at the age of 92. Born in Denver, CO on 6/21/1922 to Paul Hamilton Barker and Louise Hoff. Her brother, Paul Hamilton Barker, Jr. predeceased her. She graduated from the University of Colorado (Boulder) and University of Colorado (Denver) Medical School. She was a member and Chapter President of Delta Delta Delta Sorority; Member of Mortar Board; Senior Class President; Miss Colorado University; President of the Association of Women Students.
Dr. Barker interned at Denver General Hospital where she met her late husband of 54 years, Arthur Benjamin Wein M.D. (d.2008). Her residency at Montefiore Medical Center in NYC brought her to the East Coast. Her medical practice in Anesthesia included private dental offices; Anesthesia Staff at Children's National Medical Center (Washington, DC); Chief of Anesthesia at the Washington Sanitarium and Hospital (Takoma Park, MD), Hadley Memorial Hospital and Sibley Memorial Hospital (Washington, DC). Additional personal and professional achievements included US Delegate for the World Congress on Anesthesia (1972), President of the DC/MD Society of Anesthesiologists; DC Medical Society (various positions), Co-founder of the Center for Ambulatory Surgery, Inc.,(CASI), Washington, DC opened in 1977, Founding Board member of the Hirsh Health Center, Hebrew Home of Greater Washington; Member of the American Technion Society and benefactor of The Arthur B. Wein M.D. and Mary Lou Barker M.D. Dormitory at The Technion, Haifa, Israel.
She was a lifelong animal lover and supported many animal rescue organizations including those focused on dogs, cats, horses, donkeys and tigers.
She is survived by son Daryl Barker Wein of Bethesda and daughter Cynthia Ellen Wein Lett (Gerald) of Silver Spring, MD, grandson Cameron Barker Wein Lett, granddaughter Sara Lett Mulhall, of McLean, VA and great grandson Connor Joseph Mulhall. Loving grandmother of Jonathan Clark Lett (d.2006).
Family will receive visitors at Joseph Gawler’s Sons, 5130 Wisconsin Avenue NW Washington, DC 20016 on September 18, 2014 between 4 and 7pm. Internment will be September 23, 2014 at 11am at Fairmount Cemetery, Denver, Colorado. Donations in her name may be made to the Washington, DC Animal Rescue League, 71 Oglethorpe Street, NW Washington, DC 20011.
