

Maxwell Kenyon Foster “Ken” died at home after a long illness on Sunday, June 27, 2021. He is survived by his three children, Elizabeth Doherty (Robert), Martha Klein (Roger), and Andrew Foster (Angela), and five grandchildren, Brendan Doherty, Cara Doherty, Caitlin Doherty, Rachel Klein Dalton (Aaron) and David Klein.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Helen (née Mullin) who died in 1992, and by his second wife, Barbara (née Larter), who died in 2019. He also leaves behind two stepchildren, Karen Riibner and Mark Smith (Marva), and two step-grandchildren, Nicole Riibner and Carli Riibner.
Born in Missouri on February 5, 1932, Ken moved to Washington, DC with his parents in 1945. He graduated from Western High School in 1950 and earned his B.S. degree in engineering from George Washington University in 1956.
Ken loved reading, especially books about U.S. history and politics. He enjoyed running, cycling, cross country skiing, canoeing and sailing. He was especially proud of accomplishing his goal of running in all 50 states. He had a passion for old cars and convertibles and enjoyed working on cars, until the electronic components added to modern cars became too complicated to fix.
Ken spent his career working as an engineer in a variety of industries, from aerospace to wastewater management to construction management.
A public visitation will be held on Thursday, July 1st at Joseph Gawler's Sons, 5130 Wisconsin Ave., NW, Washington, DC 20015 from 5 PM - 8 PM. Funeral services will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church, 5949 Western Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20015 on Friday, July 2nd at 11:00 AM. Interment is at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland, immediately following the church service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Montgomery Hospice, www.montgomeryhospice.org, which provided him with comfort and care in his final days.
