

Melissa A. McPeak, 68, died at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, MD April 9, 2022 after a long illness. Melissa grew up in Bay City Michigan. She graduated from Handy High school in 1971 and went on to study criminal justice at Michigan State University.
After graduation Melissa traveled on her own around the world for almost a year. When she ran out of money,she waitressed in whatever country she landed. After her travels she moved to Washington, DC and trained to become a Washington, DC Metropolitan Police officer. She served for 5 years. The adventure bug
called her again and went into training in diplomatic security for the U.S. State Department. She worked as a security officer for U.S. embassies around the world. Her assignments included Trinidad, Gabon Africa, and Milan Italy. Before her Italy assignment she was Secretary of State Madeleine Albright’s personal security officer.
Melissa traveled around the world with the Secretary, who up until then was the
most traveled Secretary of State in history. When Melissa retired from the State Department in 2004 she spent her summers at her family’s cabin on Lake Superior, Michigan.
She is survived by her siblings Bryan, Rich and Patrice and her nieces Mindy, Morgan and nephew Sean, her grandnephew Nicholas and grandniece Sofia. She is proceeded in death by her parents Richard and Marion, and her bother Joe.
