

MICHAEL LEON FLEMING 1956 - 2015 Died peacefully on Thursday, June 11, 2015 in Washington, DC of lung cancer. Born on April 30, 1956 in Washington DC to the late George and Sylvia Fleming, he attended Saint Anthony Catholic School in the Brookland neighborhood of DC. He graduated from Dematha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, MD and Xavier University in New Orleans, LA where he studied sociology. In 2014, Michael retired from the Federal Elections Commission after more than 30 years of service. An avid sports fan, for many years he played in and helped manage two community baseball leagues. His vast knowledge of baseball ran the gamut, from Little League records to the historic players of the Negro Leagues to the farm teams of Major League Baseball. As the eldest of six children, he was the consummate big brother, recollecting with great zeal tales of his family and childhood. He was a devoted friend and a proud uncle. Michael is survived by his siblings, Russell, Vicki (James Weiner), Wanda (David Gasperetti), Carla (Patrick Norman), Martin (Ava); and nieces and nephews, Lauren and Blair Fleming, Ronald Barnes, Bria Scott Fleming, Phillip and Lily Gasperetti, Christopher and Andrew Norman, and Matthew and Nadia Fleming. The family plans a fall memorial at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made to the American Lung Association, 55 W. Wacker Drive, Suite 1150, Chicago, IL 60601.
