

Dr. Panayiotis ("Panos") George Koutrouvelis was born in Feneos, Corinth, Greece in 1928, the son of Demetra and George Koutrouvelis. He was a graduate of the University of Athens Medical School and completed post-graduate training at the University of Kansas and Princess Margaret Hospital in Ontario, Canada. Board certified in radiology, radiation oncology and nuclear medicine, Dr. Koutrouvelis, fondly known as Dr. K., practiced in the Washington. D.C metrpolitan area since 1961. Dr. Koutrouvelis innovated an approach to brachytherapy for the treatment of prostate cancer using a 3-d CT-guided method with a stereotactic device for which he was awarded U.S. patents. He treated patients from the US and abroad and authored numerous articles published in medical journals. A Distinguished Fellow in the American College of Nuclear Medicine, Dr. Koutrouvelis was past chairman of the Department of Radiology at Potomac Hospital in Woodbridge, Virginia and an adjunct professor at Howard University College of Medicine.
Dr. Koutrouvelis enjoyed his garden and traveling to his native Greece with the love of his life, his wife Maria and their children. Dr. Koutrouvelis leaves behind his wife of 53 years Maria; four children Aristides (Gayle), Alexander, Harry and Demetri (Vicky); four grandchildren, Panos, Maria, George and Penelope; three sisters Aphrodite, Calliope, and Eleni and a brother Spryos. His son George and sisters Spyridoula and Penelope pre-deceased him.
