Patricia Harville Horan

Patricia Ann Harville Horan was born at home in the tiny town of Humboldt, Tennessee. Her family moved to Washington DC when her father got job at the US Mint. She was a graduate of Anacostia High School & American University. While at AU, a member of Delta Gamma sorority, she met Robert Lincoln Horan. After graduation the two married and Pat went to work at the Evening Star on the society and fashion page. She was also a dress model for Peck &

Peck Ladies Fashions on Connecticut Ave NW.

Pat & Bob raised their family in Green Acres- in Bethesda MD. While the girls were growing up, Pat was an active school PTA mother, library assistant, & ‘swim mom’ supporting the Little Falls Pool Swimming Team. She also served as a Montgomery County election official.

After raising her family, Pat went to work for the American Red Cross, holding various administrative roles in the director’s offices. She retired in her 80’s after decades of service. She was an active member of St. Columba’s and St. Alban’s Episcopal Churches. While at St. Columba’s she was selected to complete one of the seven needlepoint kneelers for the high altar, once completed the kneelers were displayed at the National Cathedral in Washington DC. After the girls graduated she moved back to NW DC.

“Miss Patricia” moved to Chevy Chase House 7 years ago. She was an active member of the residents’ council. Her favorite activities included greeting potential new residents and supporting the staff holiday fund.

Patricia is pre-deceased by her ex-husband Robert Horan & daughter Alison Horan. She is survived by her daughter Leslie & son in law Carl Rowan Jr., of Washington DC & Arlington VA, 3 grandchildren Gwen, Elizabeth, & David, 7 great grandchildren, & loving pet Winston.

The family wishes to express extreme gratitude to the staff of Chevy Chase House for their loving care for several decades to multiple members of the Horan family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Red Cross.

Funeral arrangements will be private.
